Volkswagen AG was hit hard with a recent fuel emission controversy in the US. But that didn’t mean everything went tumbling down for the German automaker. In fact, Volkswagen Philippines remained optimistic regarding the matter and assured their customers that everything is ok.
To give a general idea of what happened, the Engine Control Unit (ECU) software was found to alter the engine’s behavior upon detecting an emission test. By analyzing certain steering and throttle inputs, it automatically turns on the vehicle’s pollution control system. After testing, the system turns off.
Here comes the good news, Volkswagen AG clarified that all units sold here in the Philippines are not affected by the ECU software that hounded the units tested in the US.
Following the clarification, Volkswagen Philippines issued their official statement last September 30, 2015 that said,
We at Volkswagen Philippines sincerely apologize to all our customers for the undue stress and inconvenience this issue may have caused. All vehicles distributed and sold by Volkswagen Philippines comply with Philippine emissions regulations and standards. Volkswagen Philippines highly appreciates the continued trust and confidence provided by the Filipino consumers to the Volkswagen brand.
What this means is that owners of the latest Volkswagen vehicles here in the country won’t have to worry about their VWs being recalled for fixing. Interested new car buyers will likewise be freed of emission worries when they avail the brand’s latest models like the Beetle, Golf GTI, Polo hatchback, Polo sedan, Jetta, Tiguan, Touareg, and Touran.
