As a car buyer, one of the primary concerns when purchasing a brand new car is the price or affordability of your preferred model, though there’s actually more to that. Parts accessibility, after-sales, and even the cost of car insurance should also be looked into. The price of insuring your car usually varies depending on the model of your choice.
Notably, there are a lot of vehicles in the Philippines that are cheap to insure, and the majority fall under the economy car market. In order to properly guide you, here are some of the cheapest vehicles to insure in the Philippines.
Suzuki Celerio
First on the list is the Suzuki Celerio, and it’s one of the small hatchbacks being offered by the Japanese automaker. All thanks to its 1.0-liter gasoline engine paired with either a manual gearbox or CVT, the Celerio is able to deliver impressive fuel economy figures in and out of the city. Guarding it with an annual car insurance premium will only cost owners about P15,000 for the lowest trim level.
Chevrolet Spark
Currently, the Chevrolet Spark is the only hatchback being offered by the Golden Bowtie in the Philippines. Along with its clean and ageless exterior, the Spark is also available with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for seamless phone integration. Subscribing an annual car insurance premium for the Spark will only cost owners less than P17,000 for the base trim.
Mitsubishi Mirage G4
The Mitsubishi Mirage G4 recently had its refresh, with the renowned subcompact sedan featuring exterior and interior upgrades. Notably, it will cost you about P16,000 per year to insure your Mirage G4 in its lowest trim, as long as you shop around for good car insurance coverage and compare quotes.
Honda City
The Honda City is one of the most affordable and well-equipped entries in the subcompact sedan category. It’s also known for being fuel-efficient, be it in the city or out on the highway. The cheapest annual car insurance premium for the City starts at about P20,000 for the entry-level S variant with a manual transmission. The great thing about the Honda City now is that it comes with Honda SENSING for all variants, so neither the car nor the insurance policy will leave you with the short end of the stick when it comes to features.
Suzuki Dzire
Suzuki Philippines recently gave the Dzire a minor refresh earlier this year, with the small sedan carrying minor updates inside and out. Insurance package rates for the Suzuki Dzire usually start at just about P15,000.
Suzuki APV
The Suzuki APV has been around in the market for quite some time now. Back in the day, it’s one of the few 7-seater MPVs being offered in the Philippines. If you’ve been planning to buy this one, the APV’s annual car insurance premium starts at about P14,000 for the lowest variant.
Suzuki Ertiga Hybrid
Aside from the APV, the Japanese automaker is also offering the Suzuki Ertiga as part of its seven-seater lineup. Notably, this MPV is perfect for starting families, aside from its spacious cabin, the Ertiga also offers a good amount of convenience and safety features which also includes a mild hybrid system. Insurance coverage for the Ertiga may start at about P17,000 for a policy covering the entry-level model.
Toyota Wigo
The Toyota Wigo is very famous among first-time car buyers. This is simply because it’s affordable, easy to maintain, and reliable given that it’s a Toyota. Insuring a Toyota Wigo will cost you about P13,000 per year for the entry-level E variant.
Honda Brio
One of the main competitors of the Wigo is the Honda Brio. One of its advantages over the Toyota is its better driving dynamics coupled with a sportier look. Insurance package rates for the Brio usually start at just under P15,000 for the entry-level manual variant.
Kia Stonic
The Kia Stonic is known for having the ‘style that’s iconic’, a famous tagline that’s dubbed by the South Korean automaker. It’s definitely a suitable ride for younger buyers, given its youthful design, capable performance, and infotainment system that features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Owners can have their Kia Stonic insured at just under P16,000 for the entry-level LX trim.
Volkswagen Santana
If you want an affordable German car, then you might as well consider the Volkswagen Santana. Earlier this year, the subcompact sedan received a mild update, with it having new wheels and additional convenience features. The cheapest annual car insurance premium for the Santana starts at about P15,000 for the model's base trim.
Toyota Vios
It is without a doubt that the Toyota Vios is a crowd favorite in the Philippines. It’s a suitable city car for many reasons, and one of them is because of its fuel efficiency. Plus, it’s also one of the cheapest sedans to insure in the Philippines, with insurance package rates starting at just under P15,000 for the base three-airbag J variant.
Suzuki Swift
Last on the list is the Suzuki Swift. Aside from its sporty styling, the subcompact hatch also handles pretty well and has a good amount of convenience and safety features for its occupants. Insurance rates for this hatchback start at just under P20,000 for the base GL variant with a manual transmission.
Geely Emgrand
At its most affordable trim, this Geely is easy to drive, own, and also insure. At just over P16,000 per year, the Emgrand in its S trim is not only an affordable purchase, but owners can be assured of a comprehensive policy for the vehicle at a very low and accessible per year cost.
Changan Alsvin
At its most basic trim level, the Changan Alsvin comes with a 1.4-liter gasoline engine and a five-speed manual transmission. The model makes good on its value proposition, priced well under a million Philippine Pesos for its top-of-the-line trim. However, if you are looking for the most affordable model in the lineup to insure, a comprehensive policy for the model's base package starts at just P14,000 per year.
MG 5
To insure the MG 5 at its base Core variant with a manual transmission, it will only cost you about P15,000 per year. The model is priced at about P700,000 for this trim level, but with a bunch of other features, the 5 still finds itself priced at about P1,000,000. Because of that, the insurance rate for this model is about as affordable as the model itself.
