The Honda car brand in the Philippines was established in the 1990s and is distributed by two corporations. The first is the Ayala Corporation, established in October of 1990, then the other is the Yuchengco Group, established in March of 1997. Currently, the Honda brand has a total of 38 dealerships in the country.
The current line up of Honda cars in the Philippines caters to many different segments and price brackets. The Brio, Brio Amaze, Jazz, City, Mobilio, BR-V, HR-V, Civic, CR-V, Accord, and Odyssey, as well as the Honda Civic Type R.
In 2019, Honda launched three new models which include the all-new Brio hatchback with an RS variant in the lineup, the facelifted BR-V now with a backup camera across all trim levels and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in the top-spec, as well as the refreshed Honda Civic with new bumpers and a more affordable 1.8 S variant. The Honda Accord was also updated into its 10th generation this year and comes with the 1.5L turbocharged engine that comes from the Civic RS Turbo variant.
Honda Philippines has stopped selling two of its large and luxurious models locally, such as the Honda Pilot and Honda Legend. Going back further, another model to cease distribution in the Philippines is the CR-Z Hybrid, Which was a two-door hatchback that boasted better fuel economy and a capable chassis.
When choosing between Honda variants, the highest trim is usually the RS trim level. These models come with an exterior that is dominated by piano-black trim pieces and accents, RS badges, and top-of-the-line features with a tweaked exterior over the non-RS variants. Between model to model, the trim letter changes, but to signal a high-end variant if the model has no RS trim, the variant letter is followed up by an X and for extra features, a plus is added. For example, the Honda City has a V variant which comes after the E variant, then the VX and VX+ comes right after. If the model has the navigation package, the word “Navi” follows up the trim letters. In the case of the CR-V, the more affordable variant is denoted as the V, and the S signals the mid-trim. The high trim follows the same convention, getting an X to go with the S, hence the SX variant. The letters E, S, V are used interchangeably, with an X or X+ and Navi being added when an RS is not available. The Civic also receives the word “Turbo” after its RS designation, because of its 1.5L turbocharged motor.
