Originally launched by Suzuki Philippines in April 2013 as the Swift Dzire, this mini subcompact sedan is now known simply as Suzuki Dzire. It begs to turn away from having the same nameplate as its hatchback counterpart and is currently on its third-generation model. Like its predecessor, the Suzuki Dzire still hosts chrome accents on the grille and front bumper. But, its overall appearance has completely changed as it now boasts a brand-new headlamp-taillight design, grille shape, and bumper.
The Suzuki Dzire’s interior offers a simple-yet-sporty ambiance for its occupants. The center console houses a seven-inch infotainment system with navigation, considered to be one of the biggest in the segment. In addition, there are rear air conditioning vents plus a 12V socket for added convenience. Powering the Suzuki Dzire is a 1.2-liter Direct Action Intake VVT K12M engine with 82 hp and 113 Nm of torque. It comes with either a five-speed transmission (GL variant) or a five-speed Auto Gear Shift (AGS) also known as the automated manual transmission.
Launch
The current generation Suzuki Dzire was launched in June of 2018. It was launched at the same time as its stablemate the Suzuki Swift. The Dzire is powered by a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine. The Dzire launched with either a 5-speed manual or an Auto Gear Shift transmission. The subcompact sedan comes with three variants the GA, GL, and GL+.
In February of 2021 Suzuki Philippines gave the Dzire a minor facelift, giving it a new bumper and a redesigned grille. The Japanese brand also gave it a new set of multi-color and multi-display gauges to update it for the model year. The notable changes to the gauge cluster were the move to return the engine and fuel gauges back to an analog display instead of a digital one.
Platform, Chassis and Powertrain
Powering the Suzuki Dzire is a 1.2-liter gasoline fed engine. The powerplant produces 82p and 113hp of torque. It can either be had with a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed auto gear shift transmission. For stopping power it has ventilated discs at the front. For the rear, it gets leading and trailing drum brakes. For suspension, it comes with MacPherson struts with coil springs for the front and torsion beam suspension with coil springs at the rear.
The Suzuki Dzire even with its 1.2-liter K12M gasoline engine may not seem as impressive on paper coming in with only 82hp and 113 Nm of torque but the car knows how to maximize the power figures well. the 5-speed automated manual found in the higher variants is both the strongest point and the weakest point of the vehicle. The transmission will sometimes have a hard time shifting from gear to gear. Downshifting in the vehicle can also be laggy when it comes to more spirited drives. When things slow down, however, the Dzire shifts smoothly.
Handling is one of the best traits of the Dzire. The steering wheel has a great weight to it, which gives the vehicle a stable feel at high speeds and a light feel during tight maneuvering situations. Understeer can be felt in the vehicle during tight turns at high speeds. Despite this, the subcompact sedan still manages to feel safe. The brakes are more than ample when it comes to stopping the vehicle but it is a point of improvement for the Dzire.
Technology Features
At the center of the dashboard of the Suzuki Dzire is either a 1DIN radio for the GA variant, a 2DIN radio for the GL variant, or a 7-inch infotainment system for the GL+ variant. The subcompact sedan also features a rear aircon vent. Suzuki Philippines in its February facelift of the Dzire, gave it a new multi-color and multi-information display for all models except the GA variant. This also marked the choice of the Japanese brand to revert the fuel and engine temperature gauges back to an analog setup.
Exterior
On the exterior, the Suzuki Dzire features body-colored front and rear bumpers, as well as, a chrome painted front grille. Its door handles are body-colored. It also comes with an electromagnetic tailgate opener. Front and rear mudflaps are also a standard feature for the car. The whole Dzire lineup comes with multi-reflector halogen headlights. In February of 2021 Suzuki gave the Dzire a new front bumper featuring a 3-bar design, it also added new foglight housings in silver and over all gave the vehicle a flatter nose.
Interior
The Suzuki Dzire comes with a predominantly black interior. The only available seat material is fabric. It comes with cabin lights with three at the front and three at the center. It comes with assist grips for the passengers. It also comes with a vanity mirror for the front passenger. In February 2021 gave the sedan a minor facelift giving it a new multi-color and multi-display gauge cluster to give it a more modern look.
Safety
The Suzuki Dzire for safety features ABS with EBD, a brake assist function, a pedal release system for the brake and clutch, 3-point seatbelts for the front and rear passengers with the exclusion of the center that only comes with a 2-point lap belt. The sedan also comes with ISOFIX seat anchors, childproof rear door locks, and side-impact beams for the front and rear. For the 2021 model year Suzuki Philippines have given all variants of the Dzire a vehicle stability control system with the exception of the GA variant.

Had no regrets choosing the Suzuki Dzire. Really a bang-for-the-buck car. The best thing about the car is it's fuel economy. I've made a run from Antipolo to Bicol (~400KM), fully loaded, and I still have half a tank left (~18 liters consumed).
However, the AGS transmission does take a bit of getting used to. Most concerning is the system's tendency to switch to a higher gear while in the middle of climbing an incline. This ends up with the unit losing momentum while going up a steep incline. I would suggest to keep the AGS system in Manual mode in this case so you have more control over the gear shifting.
