The pickup truck segment in the Philippines offers interested buyers a plethora of choices. They can pick and choose between the offerings of Japanese and American brands, as well as automakers from other countries that have slowly made their presence known in the pickup truck segment. Enter the Chevrolet Colorado, a veteran of the segment that still has a lot to offer interested buyers despite its tenure. It’s a rough and tough pickup truck that packs quite a punch and comes fully loaded with tech and safety features that many will surely appreciate. With that said, here are 5 things to like about the Chevrolet Colorado and why you should consider putting it on your pickup truck shortlist.
Subtle styling, tough exterior
Chevrolet Colorado goes about styling in a different manner. While it doesn’t have the typical angular appearance of its competitors it does come with more curves but in the right places. This gives the pickup truck a subtle yet muscular look thanks to a rounded front end. Character lines are plentiful with the Colorado as they help to give the vehicle a more imposing stance, partly thanks to prominent wheel arches. With a range of variants to choose from, Chevrolet has done well to make sure there is a model for almost everyone. If you want a more subtle look then the regular LS, LT, LX, and LTX models are there to suit that need. If you want something a little flashier then the Trail Boss, LTZ, and the High Country Storm are the ones to get. Regardless of which variant you choose, you’re in for one tough truck.
A powerful lineup of DURAMAX diesel engines
When it comes to pickup trucks in the Philippines having a powerful diesel engine beating at its heart is one of the features Filipinos seem to very much enjoy. The Chevrolet Colorado has got this covered as it can be had with two turbo-diesel motors under its hood. The first option is a 2.5-liter motor, while the other is a 2.8-liter. Amongst the two, the 2.8-liter engine is the far more powerful motor as it produces 200 hp and 500 Nm of torque. The 2.5-liter, on the other hand, only produces 163 hp and 380 Nm of torque. Transmission options are either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. Similar to other pickup trucks available in the market, the Colorado can be had with either a 4x2 or a 4x4 drivetrain.
Durable and spacious interior
On the inside, the Chevrolet Colorado comes with a spacious, comfy, and tall interior. It has a relatively high driving position which works well to give the driver a great view of the road and what is in front of the pickup truck. For its higher-end models, the Golden Bowtie’s pickup truck comes with a generous amount of leather along with soft plastics found on the door panels. This further emphasizes the comfy aspect of the Colorado, while giving it a touch of luxury as well.
Tech-packed with plenty of safety features
In terms of technology, the Chevrolet Colorado comes well equipped. Higher tier variants come with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, while lower models get a 7-inch touchscreen instead. To add to this Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is also standard across the variant range making it easier for users to connect their phones to the infotainment system. A reverse camera is also available, however, only for top-of-the-line and mid-tier variants only.
Aside from this the Chevrolet pickup truck also comes with a host of great safety features which were innovative for its time. The higher variants of the pickup truck come with Hill Start Assist, Hill Descent Control, Stability Control, Traction Control, Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Trailer Sway Control, and a tire pressure monitoring system. This is on top of standard features such as ABS with EBD, dual front airbags, and an engine immobilizer system. All handy features to have especially if you want to haul cargo or go off-roading.
Manageable steering
Another noteworthy feature that the Chevrolet Colorado has is its light and manageable steering. Given that the pickup truck comes with large wheels and tires, it would be safe to assume that the steering would feel slow and heavy. This isn’t the case with the Golden Bowtie badged pickup truck.Chevrolet has tuned the steering to make it easier for the driver to use, while also maintaining a good amount of feedback. This lets the driver know what’s going on with the pickup truck, while not feeling the strain of a heavy steering feeling. With this feature present in all variants of the Chevrolet Colorado, it makes maneuvering a pickup of its size a breeze, especially in tight areas.
Overall the Chevrolet Colorado gives interested buyers an affordable and tech-packed pickup truck that also comes with great power to boot. This makes it ideal for those who want a workhorse vehicle that also comes with a lot of convenience and safety features as well.
