We hear the line “Built Ford Tough” a lot, but did you know Ford actually checks if it’s true for every single Ranger? Before a Ford Ranger gets to a customer, it goes through a series of tests at the factory. The inspection is done to make sure the vehicle is working properly, looks right, and is ready to be driven. From the regular Ranger to the Ranger Raptor, all models go through the same steps.
The whole process is handled by the Customer Acceptance Line (CAL), which is made up of trained inspectors. They check each unit closely before giving it a go signal. The first step happens in a dark room. Here, the team checks the headlights, tail lights, dashboard, screen, and other lights inside the car. This is to make sure everything lights up as it should.
Next comes the hands-on inspection. Inspectors go over every surface of the vehicle using their hands, feeling for any rough spots or misaligned panels. Buttons, knobs, and controls are also tested to see if they’re working properly. After that, a full system check is done, which means running diagnostics to make sure that all electrical components, including sensors and control units, are properly connected and working.
The fourth step uses Ford’s mobile artificial intelligence vision system (MAIVS), where an advanced tool scans the vehicle from all angles, checking for things like crooked badges, paint flaws, and panel gaps. The fifth step simulates a rainstorm. High-pressure water is sprayed onto the vehicle for five minutes, similar to heavy rain. Inspectors then check if any water gets into places it shouldn’t, like lights or door seals. Finally, the vehicle is driven on a 320-meter squeak-and-rattle track with seven types of uneven surfaces, where the test helps identify strange noises and checks how well the steering and suspension handle bumpy roads.
No squeaks, no leaks, no problems—at least that’s the goal. Every Ford Ranger, from the XL to the Raptor, gets the same detailed testing before it hits the road.
