The 2024 Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) has drawn to a close, and that means it is now a good time to take a quick look back and see what is in store for the Philippine automotive industry. It goes without saying that this year’s PIMS was one of the most epic, with new launches left and right from both emerging and established automotive marques.
Without further ado, let’s check our notes to see which cars have been officially launched at the 2024 PIMS. Read through all the launches and let us know which one is your favorite.
Ford Ranger Raptor V6
First on our list is the much-awaited Ranger Raptor V6. It’s the same capable truck we’re familiar with but with extra power in the form of a twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 engine plus some additional upgrades.
The Ranger Raptor’s V6 engine churns out 391 hp and 583 Nm of torque. That’s 184 hp and 83 Nm of torque more than the four-cylinder Bi-Turbo diesel Ranger Raptor. This additional power is not only due to the addition of two cylinders but also to the way the V6 is turbocharged. If you notice, there are two terms differentiating the Ranger Raptor’s two powertrain options: Bi-Turbo and Twin-Turbo. We won’t get too deep into any specifics but in summary, the Bi-Turbo employs one small turbo and one large turbo in sequence to provide boost whereas the Twin-Turbo uses two similarly sized turbochargers simultaneously to provide better throttle response and lots of power at high speeds.
Other notable differences include the addition of a FOX 2.5-inch Live valve Internal
Bypass shock absorbers for the front suspension, FOX Live valve shock absorbers Internal Bypass reservoir dampers at the rear, and a sweet twin exhaust system. Inside, passengers are treated to a 10-speaker sound system developed by Bang and Olufsen.
The price for all this awesomeness? P2,739,000. You read that right, the most powerful Ranger Raptor on the market is available for under P3 million.
Kia EV9
The next vehicle comes from Kia and it's the multi-award winning EV9. Being the recipient of the 2024 World Car of the Year award, Kia is making a definite mark not only in the EV landscape but also in the automotive industry as a whole. The Kia EV9 features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system delivering an impressive 389 hp of power and 600 Nm of torque. With a range of up to 482 km per charge, it’s well-suited for extended trips. Its fast charging capability allows the battery to go from 10 percent to 80 percent in less than 25 minutes. On the tech front, the SUV includes a 12.3-inch dual display, advanced driver assistance systems, and over-the-air updates that keep its software optimized.
This tech-filled EV is now available in the country in the form of the EV9 GT-Line which comes equipped with all the bells and whistles. Priced at P5,888,000, the EV9 is set to compete against other similarly sized Premium SUVs.
Nissan Z Nismo
Moving to Nissan the Japanese automaker has unveiled the most hardcore version of the Z, the Z Nismo. As expected of a Nissan bearing the Nismo badge, the Z Nismo arrives with a host of visual enhancements and substantial mechanical upgrades over the standard Z model.
Visually, the most striking changes appear at the front, where a larger grille and redesigned nose lead the way, complemented by the exclusive Stealth Grey color. The exterior is finished with 19-inch forged alloy Rays wheels and a three-piece rear spoiler that enhances downforce.
Under the hood, Nismo tuned the Z’s V30DDTT V6 engine, implementing upgrades like refined ignition timing, a redesigned turbo wastegate, and enhanced cooling for both the oil and engine. These refinements boost the Z Nismo’s output to an impressive 420 hp and 521 Nm of torque.
To sharpen handling, Nismo reinforced the Z's body with additional bracing to reduce flex during cornering. Further enhancements include a new steel driveshaft, larger dampers, and upgraded brakes featuring larger four-piston calipers and larger discs.
Nissa Philippines Inc. prices this track monster at P4,668,000. For enthusiasts who value great driving performance and those looking for the absolute best track experience, the Z Nismo is well worth the price.
Chery Tiggo 2 Pro
Front and center at the 2024 PIMS, Chery has introduced a new addition to its crossover lineup in the form of the Tiggo 2 Pro. The Tiggo 2 Pro boasts a striking design with sharp details. Its bold and assertive front end, defined by sleek lines and refined aesthetics, is made to captivate a younger audience—perfect for those seeking a crossover that will match the modern lifestyle.
Notable features include automatic projector headlights, Chery's signature checkered flag grille, 16-inch dark alloy wheels, and full-width LED taillights. Inside, the Tiggo 2 Pro is equipped with a 10.25-inch infotainment system that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a reverse camera with dynamic guiding lines, and cruise control for added convenience.
Powering the new Tiggo 2 Pro is a 1.5-liter DOHC engine, available with either a five-speed manual transmission or a simulated nine-speed CVT. Drivers can choose between two driving modes—Sport and Eco—allowing them to tailor the driving experience to either performance or fuel efficiency. Prices start at P708,000 for the manual variant and up to P818,000 for the CVT variant which is quite competitively priced considering the increasingly competitive subcompact crossover segment.
Honda Civic RS e:HEV
Filling the top spot in the Civic lineup is the RS e:HEV. After being previewed last month, the Civic RS e:HEV made its official public debut at the 2024 PIMS. This model joins Honda's growing hybrid lineup, which includes the popular CR-V. The Civic RS aims to combine the sporty essence that Honda fans adore with innovative hybrid technology.
The Civic RS e: HEV is the 2.0-liter Atkinson cycle gasoline engine that delivers 140 hp and 182 Nm of torque. Add two electric motors and a 1.05 kWh lithium-ion battery pack to the mix, this hybrid Civic comes out with a total output of 182 hp and 315 Nm. The Civic RS e:HEV is priced at 1,990,000.
BMW i5 M60 Touring
The final car on the list is sure to delight fans of both estate cars and performance vehicles. The car in question is the BMW i5 M60 Touring, a pure electric estate version of the 5 series BMW.
Propelling the M60 Touring are two electric motors that produce a combined output of 592 hp and an impressive 795 Nm of torque. According to BMW, the i5 M60 Touring can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds, with an electronically limited top speed of 230 km/h.
The i5 M60 xDrive is equipped with an 81.2 kWh battery pack, providing a range of up to 506 km on a full charge. Like many BMW EVs, the i5 Touring M60 xDrive supports both AC and DC CCS Type 2 charging. It can charge at rates of up to 22 kW with AC charging, while the DC charging system supports rates of up to 205 kW.
In terms of style, the i5 Touring swaps soft curves for sharp lines and angles making it look straight out of a sci-fi movie. The wagon body design accentuates the vehicle’s athletic profile while showcasing its sculpted contours. Add to that the sleek headlights and imposing grille, the i5 M60 Touring simply radiates the feeling of speed.
BMW prices the i5 M60 Touring at P7,990,000. In addition to the car itself is a BMW wall box charger and a five-year BMW warranty for free.
