We’re excited to see Chevrolet Philippines’ newest product hit the market next week, and there is no shortage of teasers, confirmations, and speculations surrounding the new would-be hit in the Philippine market.
As of late, the crossover segment has been booming, with more and more customers investing in the body style for their day-to-day drives. It’s also a feature-rich and value-rich segment here in the country, and Chevrolet plans to stack up against the competition. So, here are the features that you can expect from the brand-new model coming very soon.
New-Generation Style
The difference between the previous-generation Trax we got before and the one now is night and day. The exterior design of the New-Generation Trax is dynamic, engaging, and downright gorgeous to look at in comparison. Taking a few cues from the brand’s iconic Chevrolet Camaro, the Trax sports a large grille, a black bowtie, LED lights with DRLs, muscular cuts, and edges, along with several enhancements that make this model a head-turner in its own right.
In the lineup, the flagship model for the nameplate will be the RS variant. You could also say that it is the poster child and the representative of the New-Generation Trax. Finished in two-tone, the model sports a dynamic and aggressive design, stylish wheels, and contrasts that make it look stunning. However, if the RS isn’t to your liking, don’t worry as there will be three variants available when the model officially goes on sale, the LT, Redline, and the RS.
New-Generation Interior
All of those exterior refinements continue on the inside. The cabin sports an engaging and dynamic design that is similar to the other current models in the Chevrolet lineup. Refinements add up and are enhanced by the features in the Trax.
Standard features for the Trax include an Electronic Parking Brake with Brake Auto Hold, Smart Key Passive Entry, a center console with storage spaces, rear air vents, USB ports, a flat-bottomed steering wheel with controls for select trims, an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat for select trims, and a reverse camera for all.
Things get even better in the top-of-the-line variant, with the RS receiving wireless phone charging, a power liftgate with height adjustment, and an electric sunroof.
New-Generation Platform
The new Trax sits on a new platform. A few years ago, we had a prior generation in the lineup before it was removed from the lineup to make room for a new generation of Chevy vehicles. Now, however, the Trax is all-new, and the platform that it sits on nets it decent results in terms of size. The model is 279mm longer and 51mm wider than its predecessor, offering greater space for up to five passengers with a total cargo volume of up to 1,405 liters with the rear seats folded flat.
New-Generation Three-Cylinder Engine
In the last five years, we saw a tectonic shift in the industry, as turbochargers went from a premium performance add-on to a standard piece of equipment in pretty much every new crossover to come out in 2023. The Trax is no exception here, as the addition of a turbo allows even the smallest of engines some much-needed punch and excitement.
The powertrain is a part of General Motors' line of new-generation engines. The 1.2L E-Turbo GM Prime three-cylinder engine is mated to a proven Gen III six-speed automatic transmission and it makes 137 hp and 220 Nm of torque—which is decent.
Familiar, name, unfamiliar territory
The Trax will slot between the Tracker and the Trailblazer, which will put it in contention with the likes of the GAC Emkoo, and the Ford Territory. Recalling the previous-generation Trax, the model was sold as a contender in the subcompact crossover segment, going up against the likes of the Ford EcoSport and the Nissan Juke to name a few. Since then, Chevrolet has allowed its Trax to grow more in size, and find fitting competition with some of the heavier hitters in the industry. Perhaps the biggest feature of the Trax is that it has graduated from being a subcompact to a full-on compact crossover with more leg room, more cargo room, and just more room in general.
Now compact and almost ready for primetime in the Philippine market, what better way to celebrate the American brand’s newest addition than the fourth of July? We’re ready for the Trax, are you?
