GAC Motors entered the Philippine market in 2018 and during its time, it has established itself as an automaker that provides quality vehicles at very competitive prices. In December 2022, after a tumultuous time in the automotive industry, GAC underwent a sort of renaissance when it partnered with the Astara Group unveiling hit after hit with the GS8 SUV, the Empow sedan, and the Emkoo SUV since their relaunch. This partnership is setting the stage for GAC to further highlight the quality of the GAC brand’s services and the reliability of its products through Astara’s network and experience.
So let’s talk about what the future holds for GAC under Astara’s leadership and how it will elevate the GAC brand’s reliable image to a new level.
Present
In recent years, more and more buyers are warming up to vehicles built by GAC and we expect this to be the trend in the near future. But, good looks and flashy tech won’t cut it in the real world, people need cars they can rely on and luckily, GAC recognizes that well. Worldwide, the brand has earned awards because of GAC’s reliability and build quality, even topping the rankings in the 2020 J.D Power China Initial Quality Study. In fact, they’ve topped this ranking for eight consecutive years before the 2020 study. The reason why GACs cars are built so well is because GAC Motor upholds a stringent quality control system with the unwavering objective of achieving "zero defects" across every stage of vehicle manufacturing, including design, production, logistics, sales, and aftersales services.
In the Philippines, GAC set out to prove that their cars are tough by dabbling in a bit of endurance racing. This campaign in endurance racing cemented the toughness of their cars as one of the best in the business by bagging numerous trophies in the Petron Kalayaan Endurance series with their GA4 sedan. GAC has entered this race series since 2019 and has been a consistent award winner up to the last race held in 2022. Do note that the GA4 entered in this series is stock from the factory as per the regulations for the race. Save for mandatory safety equipment, GACs GA4 is competing with no aid from any aftermarket equipment, quite a feat for a factory standard car.
Future
Now that GAC is under the distributorship of Astara, the Chinese marque is opening more locations throughout the Philippines, increasing the influence of GAC and most importantly, making life easier for owners to avail of their aftersales services.
Right now, GAC has dealerships located in Muntinlupa City, Davao City, Makati City, Bacoor City, Pasay City, Quezon City, Pasig City, Tarlac City, and San Fernando City. Astara is set to increase the number of dealerships with more locations opening in Batangas City, BGC, Cainta, Quezon Avenue, and Lipa City. Astara’s work in increasing the influence and network of GAC dealerships to improve the brand's reach thus mitigating the drawback of hard to source parts and inconveniently-located repair centers.
The Astara Group has a long-standing relationship with the esteemed GAC brand, having been an active distributor of their vehicles in Latin American countries such as Peru and Chile. As the partnership evolves, GAC is embarking on a new era under Astara's guidance, introducing premium models such as the GS8, Empow, Emkoo, and other compelling offerings to the market.
The Astara Group and GAC’s future in the Philippines hold great promise. With its impressive portfolio of world-class brands and visionary leadership, the prospects are bright for the brand in the country. We eagerly await what else this partnership will bring.
