Mazda is renowned for its captivating and vibrant array of colors, designed to enhance the aesthetic appeal of its vehicles. Among these striking hues, Mazda Soul Red, Machine Gray, Polymetal Gray, and Zircon Sand Metallic stand out as distinct and captivating choices. Then we have the latest premium color, in their growing list of standout options called Rhodium White Premium. However, before we dive into why the process of making Rhodium White is a work of art, let’s shed some light on their other premium palettes first.
Mazda Soul Red, a signature color in Mazda's lineup, exemplifies the brand's commitment to creating emotionally engaging designs. This deep, rich red hue evokes a sense of passion and energy, capturing attention wherever it goes. Soul Red represents Mazda's dedication to precision and craftsmanship, with each layer of paint carefully applied to achieve the perfect balance of color and depth. Whether basking in the sunlight or illuminated under streetlights at night, Mazda Soul Red reveals different shades and undertones, further adding to its allure.
In contrast to the fiery Soul Red, Mazda Machine Gray represents a modern and sophisticated choice. This color exudes a sense of elegance and sleekness, perfectly complementing Mazda's sleek and dynamic designs. Machine Gray features a high-quality finish, with metallic flakes seamlessly integrated into the paint to create a refined appearance. The color shifts subtly depending on the lighting conditions, showcasing shades of gray and silver that add depth and dimension to the vehicle's surface. Machine Gray embodies Mazda's dedication to combining cutting-edge technology with timeless aesthetics.
For those seeking a more understated yet modern look, Mazda Polymetal Gray offers a unique and versatile option. Polymetal Gray blends elements of both silver and gray, resulting in a color that is simultaneously sophisticated and contemporary. This hue possesses a metallic finish that glistens in the light, emphasizing the vehicle's curves and contours. Polymetal Gray represents Mazda's commitment to pushing boundaries and creating colors that are both distinctive and adaptable, appealing to a wide range of tastes and preferences.
In the realm of earthy tones, Mazda Zircon Sand Metallic stands out as a captivating choice. This color draws inspiration from natural elements, evoking images of sandy beaches and warm desert landscapes. Zircon Sand Metallic exudes a sense of warmth and serenity, radiating a calm and welcoming aura. The metallic flakes within the paint subtly catch the light, adding texture and depth to the overall appearance. Zircon Sand Metallic reflects Mazda's ability to infuse their vehicles with a sense of nature, bringing the outside world into the realm of automotive design.
Then we have Mazda’s all-new special color option, called Rhodium White Premium. This isn’t your regular run-of-the-mill white or pearl white color option. As a matter of fact, it would be foolish to think that this is just another white in the market.
Rhodium White Premium is an exclusive paint color created using the innovative Takuminuri painting technology. This new color is primarily offered for the Japanese brand’s Large Product group models, starting with the Mazda CX-60.
In line with Mazda’s Kodo - Soul of Motion design philosophy. Rhodium White Premium, a pristine white hue, draws inspiration from Japanese aesthetics that appreciate the simplicity and the absence of unnecessary elements. The paint's fine grain enhances the vehicle's surface shadows, complementing the metallic texture of Rhodium White Premium.
With the development of Rhodium White Premium, Mazda achieved new heights with Takuminuri, successfully producing an expressive color using just three layers: a clear layer, a reflective layer, and a color layer.
The color layer delivers a smooth and finely textured white appearance. Typically, white paints reveal the underlying layers, necessitating a thicker clear coat. However, through the development of Rhodium White Premium, Mazda has managed to reduce the thickness of the color layer by up to 30 percent. This not only improves resource efficiency but also reduces CO2 emissions during the manufacturing process.
For the reflective layer, Mazda employs a meticulous application method that incorporates paint infused with ultra-thin, highly luminous aluminum flakes. These flakes uniformly adhere and then significantly shrink during the drying process, resulting in an incredibly thin reflective layer, approximately 0.5 microns or about seven percent of the typical thickness.
Furthermore, Mazda has achieved a hand-painted finish by precisely aligning the aluminum flakes at regular intervals in the reflective layer. When exposed to light, the entire surface gleams and exhibits a realistic metallic texture. The individual aluminum flakes are evenly distributed and parallel to the body's contours, creating a glossy and shaded appearance despite the bright white color of Rhodium White Premium.
Mazda considers color a vital element of every vehicle and will continue to explore new color expressions and painting technologies to enhance the appeal of its products, as proven by its past premium paint offerings. If you think about it, Mazda is the only brand below European brand levels of pricing that employs such a stringent process and selection of paint for more people to spec and enjoy.
