Driving entails risks that people willingly take whenever they ride a car. Good thing, with the onset of innovative technologies, the car manufacturers have made the experience better, safer, and more efficient.
Thankfully, Nissan is one among these OEMs that have exciting innovations to offer. In its recent introduction of breakthrough car features called Nissan Intelligent Mobility (NIM), it has made every journey utterly secured and definitely more enjoyable. To learn more about NIM, here’s a rundown of what we’ve learned (and experienced) on how amazing its safety features are.
What’s available now
During the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show, Nissan launched its Leaf electric vehicle (EV) that features the e-Pedal. When activated, this feature allows drivers to simply use one pedal to accelerate and decelerate, making driving less tiring and stressful.
Aside from that, Nissan also equipped the Leaf and some of its new models with NIM’s Pro PILOT Assist technology. It uses its many on-board sensors, and feeds information gathered to activate its many safety features such as the lane departure warning when the driver fails to use the turn signal when switching lanes.
The NIM Pro PILOT Assist also has distance and cruise control, as well as forward emergency braking with pedestrian detection that helps the driver from either crashing into a vehicle/person upfront.
Just recently, we got to try the NIM’s Around View Monitor (AVM) equipped in the Navara pickup truck. The AVM utilizes several cameras to create a 360-degree overhead view of the vehicle which helps the driver easily park, navigate around obstacles, and pass through narrow roads without a hitch at slow speeds.
The future of NIM
Nissan is currently developing its Brain-to-Vehicle (B2V) technology. This sci-fi-like system will allow sensors attached to the driver’s head to detect brain waves in order to improve in-cabin comfort and stress levels. Furthermore, the Japanese brand conceptualized its own “valet service” via Pro PILOT Park Assist. It will use a total of four cameras and 12 sonars to park your vehicle with a touch of a button as long as it’s within the parking vicinity.
