The Kia Carnival has a lot going for it. Not only is it a stylish uptown cruiser, but it’s also a capable everyday family hauler and basically a lounge on wheels. Even if it sits you in the lap of luxury, buying it as a family vehicle is also a definite possibility. Let’s go over a few reasons why it makes for a perfect family vehicle on top of all of its luxuries.
Flexibility
One moment you can have a lounge for the whole family to travel with, then the next you could have a capable hauler with a ton of space. The rear seats of the Carnival fold very flat to the floor, which means that you can fit a lot of stuff back there ranging from groceries to bicycles, and even luggage for when you have outings with your loved ones.
The flexible seating arrangement allows for versatile use of the space in the Carnival. It gets top marks with us in terms of utility because, with over 2,400 liters worth of space with all the rear seats folded, you get SUV levels of practicality in a package that is more comfortable and with choice seating.
Two thrones at the back
Speaking of choice seating. With the Carnival, you get to ride first class provided you called dibs on one of the captains’ chairs. When we had the model, we remember fighting a little bit over who got to sit in first class. The middle-row seats are also among the best that we’ve experienced so far thanks to tons of adjustability which includes reclining, distance, seat angle, and footrest angle among others. Sitting in these chairs, you’ll definitely feel like you’re a VIP.
A minivan that doesn’t really drive like a minivan
This is a case of if you know, you know. The Carnival is actually based on the capable Sorento platform. To us, the drive was more enjoyable than we imagined. There was enough torque coming from the 2.2-liter diesel engine, but the car remained very light to drive. The torque of the motor paired with the relatively light handling made us think that we were driving a crossover. We were only reminded that it was a minivan when we looked at the side mirrors and the rear view mirrors. All that space coupled with a relatively enjoyable drive makes it a memorable model in our books.
The driver’s not forgotten
You may think that the Carnival’s features are a little barren up front, but that’s not the case. In the driver’s seat, the model is far from being an average van. The infotainment screen is fully-featured as with all Kia cars nowadays, but you also get a nice set of gauges that share the same frame as the infotainment screen. On top of that, there are also driver-assist features that help you keep safe on the road. Thanks to the DRIVE WISE system, which includes forward collision avoidance assist, lane-keep, and following assist, as well as a full suite of airbags and other key features like ABS with EBD, driving this big car becomes close to effortless.
Safety for you and your family
Safety is always a concern when it comes to familial matters. The Carnival is definitely one car that you can trust to keep all your loved ones safe. The Carnival continues to score high in various regional NCAP tests, netting a five-star score. Should the worst come to pass and you find yourself in a bad accident, the Carnival can keep you and your occupants safe.
