The summer season has officially started and long weekends are on the horizon. This means it's the ideal time to go out of the city and hit the road for a quick excursion or just a vacation away from the hustle and bustle. As it is a great time for a road trip picking the right car for this kind of journey is very important. You want something fuel-efficient, that has lots of features to keep you and your passengers entertained, and you will want something with a bit of power under the hood to help you along on the highway and provincial roads.
Enter the Mazda CX-5, a viable candidate for such a task, especially with Mazda’s recent update imbuing the crossover with more features than before. Plus with, a selection of powerful engines under the hood, the CX-5 presents a compelling companion on your next road trip. With all that said, here are a couple of reasons why you should get one as your next daily driver or as your mile-munching road trip buddy from Mazda Philippines.
On a road trip especially a long one you want to be comfortable and as less stressed as possible. While you can't do much about serious traffic, what the Mazda CX-5 offers you is a comfortable and premium interior. Depending on the variant you choose, you will get a range of leather to Nappa leather seats. While the latter is the one to go for, the regular does the trick, plus, Mazda offers the CX-5 with power-adjust front seats as standard. Mazda’s Jinba Ittai philosophy also makes it comfortable for you to drive the crossover as you will feel more in tune with it versus other cars. Not to mention the bolstering of the CX-5 is also great and supportive as well. The result? You can drive the CX-5 for very long journeys without the trip feeling taxing or exhausting.
Great infotainment system
Mazda makes it easy for you to use its infotainment system without having to reach out and touch the screen. The command knob, while having a bit of a learning curve is intuitive and easy to use and you will be able to seamlessly use it without having to take your eyes off the road. This is a great safety feature to have especially if you need to navigate to where you are going. The positioning of the infotainment system is also ideal as it is in the center and just above the dashboard line placing it right in front of you but not so much hindering your view of the road.
Power on demand
While we did mention earlier that the 2.5-liter turbo model is the one to go for especially if you want to power on demand as it produces 250 hp and 434 Nm of torque on 95 Ron gasoline, its other variants are also great choices. Even if the turbo is out of your budget, the 2.5-liter naturally aspirated model is still fairly quick with 187 hp and 252 Nm of torque on tap. The 2.0-liter motor also is nothing to scoff at as it produces 154 hp and 200 Nm of torque. Whichever model you choose you will surely have overtaking power when you need it and fuel efficiency as well thanks to the brand’s Skyactiv-G technology.
Great safety features
On a road trip no matter how far or how close it is to home, you will want to be as safe as possible. Mazda excels in this category, especially with the CX-5 as it gets more standard kit across the board. For its safety feature set, the crossover gets six airbags for all variants, anti-lock brakes with EBD, dynamic stability control, a 360-degree camera, ISOFIX anchors, rear cross-traffic alert, and a blind spot monitoring system. The top-spec AWD Turbo model, on the other hand, has a few more features as it comes with lane departure warning with lane keep assist, smart city brake support for the front and rear, smart brake support, and driver attention alert as part of the i-Activsense suite.
Bose Sound System
Another key feature that the Mazda CX-5 has to keep you entertained on long road trips is its 10-speaker BOSE sound system. Nothing ruins a road trip more than awkward silence, these trips out of town are meant to be a bonding experience between you and your friends or between you and your family so why not spice it up a bit with some music? The sound stage of the speaker system is great with clear highs and lows, but you will need to tune it a bit to your liking so it hits the sweet spot for you. That being said, it is a feature that will change the way you listen to music in other cars. To sweeten the deal even further, the sound system is standard on all variants of the CX-5.
