The all-new Subaru BRZ might be heading to the Philippine market soon than expected. The next-generation sports car was originally expected to arrive in the local market in 2022. However, it looks like Subaru Philippines has other plans as reports have stated that the automaker plans to bring in the vehicle by the last quarter of 2021. It is important to note that no specific dates were mentioned and Motor Image has yet to confirm if it will really launch the BRZ this year.
Aside from the possible release date, no other specifications have been released about the Philippine version of the popular sports car. However, given that the model has already been debut in the US we can expect to see the next-generation BRZ come with similar equipment.
What we know will come with the BRZ is a 2.4-liter naturally aspirated boxer engine. The motor produces 228hp and 249 Nm of torque, which is a good improvement over the predecessor’s 2.0-liter powerplant. This indicates that the new model will come with a 31hp and 44 Nm increase in power over the previous model. A 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed automatic are also currently available for the vehicle in the US, which we expect will be available locally as well.
With the release of the BRZ pending this could also hint at Toyota Philippines also launching the next generation of the Toyota 86 very soon as well. However, the Japanese brand has yet to confirm any information. We suspect that Toyota will release the next generation of its popular sports car at a later date, however, we can’t rule out the possibility of a double launch occurring as well.
For now, all we can do is wait and see if Subaru Philippines will release any more information about the highly anticipated next-generation of their popular sports car.
