Upon recall, there was a November 2 deadline set for the cashless collection on toll gates, which therefore serves as a beneficial strategy during this amidst pandemic. However, given the surge of motorists rushing transition to the Autosweep RFID system, it has therefore resulted in long queues at installation stations, particularly these past two weeks. This situation has led the San Miguel Corporation (SMC) to extend the issuance of its free RFID stickers up until November 30, 2020.
Despite the extension, it is worth noting that the Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR), South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), the Skyway System, NAIA Expressway, and the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX) highways are ready for the implementation of full-cashless collection on its tollways. Quite fortunate for motorists, given that the sudden movement of the supposed deadline should hopefully give them more time to acquire their RFID stickers. That said, cars and other vehicles without the RFID module are still allowed to traverse the following SMC operated expressways until the adjusted deadline.
By November 2, all lanes at our toll plazas will be fully capable and converted to electronic toll collection, in full compliance with the government’s mandate. However, after careful study and deliberation, and especially in consideration of so many motorists who have not been able to secure an Autosweep RFID account because of the volume of applications we have today, we have decided to extend the deadline to November 30.
It was further stretched that November 30, 2020, will be the absolute deadline. Therefore, vehicles without RFID stickers will not be allowed to enter SMC-operated tollways including Skyway, SLEX, NAIAX, STAR Tollways, and TPLEX. Apart from that, motorists who do not conform will have to be apprehended and issued with a citation ticket.
