Just when you thought the U8 was already packed, BYD comes in with a longer version, say hello to the U8L. BYD has released the first official photos of the Yangwang U8L. It’s the longer version of the Yangwang U8 SUV and will be shown to the public for the first time at the Shanghai Auto Show on April 23. The U8L was also seen earlier this month in China and will likely offer more interior space and a new seat setup.
The current Yangwang U8 was launched in China in October 2023 and is priced at 1.098 million yuan, which is around P8.5 million. It’s a strong off-road SUV with unique features like tank-turn, water-floating capability for emergencies, and high ground clearance. BYD sold 7,254 units of the U8 in 2024.

Now with the U8L, the SUV is expected to measure about 5,600 mm long, making it even bigger than the regular U8, which is already 5,319 mm long. It may come with a six-seat, three-row layout. Like the original, the U8L will likely keep the same off-road angles and 285 mm ground clearance, plus a large trunk that can go from 1,031 liters to 2,050 liters with the back seats down.

From the outside, the U8L has a gold body with a black roof, shield-shaped wheels, and hidden door handles. It no longer has a rear-mounted spare tire, which makes the back look cleaner. While BYD hasn’t released the full engine specs yet, it’s expected to share the same setup as the U8. That includes a 2.0-liter turbo engine, four electric motors, 1,180 horsepower, and a 49.05 kWh Blade battery. The original U8 can go from 0 to 100 kph in 3.6 seconds, has a top speed of 200 km/h, and offers a total range of 1,000 km.
Like the U8, the U8L is expected to have BYD’s “God’s Eye” smart driving system, which helps with safety and other driving tasks. Both models use the company’s e4 platform. There’s no word yet if the U8L will be sold in the Philippines, but with BYD’s growing lineup in the country, including the Seal, Dolphin, and the recently launched Shark, this could be one of the next models to watch out for.
