It’s time to meet the Changan Hunter RE-EV, launched at PIMS 2024. Changan Auto Philippines has officially introduced the Hunter RE-EV at the 2024 Philippine International Motor Show, showing off a new type of hybrid pickup. The truck combines the power of electric motors with a turbocharged engine that acts as a generator, giving it a unique way to save fuel while still delivering power when needed.
The Hunter RE-EV doesn't have a traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) that directly powers the wheels. Instead, it uses a 2.0L BlueCore turbocharged engine, which produces 190 PS and 340 Nm of torque, but its main job is to charge a 31.18 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery. The battery powers the electric motors that actually drive the truck. Buyers can choose between a single-motor version with 172 hp and 320 Nm of torque or a dual-motor version that puts out 264 hp and 470 Nm of torque.

In terms of design, the Hunter RE-EV features a large, borderless grille with L-shaped LED lights, giving it a bold appearance. Other features include diamond-cut alloy wheels, black body cladding, roof rails, and running boards, all adding to the truck's rugged look. For off-road use, the Hunter RE-EV comes with front and rear e-controlled differential locks, along with a center lock and 10 driving modes, making it easier to handle tough terrain.
Inside the truck, you’ll find plenty of tech features. It has a 7.5-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system. Other features include a column shifter, wireless charging pad, power-adjustable seats, automatic climate control, and an advanced air filtration system. To help with parking and safety, it also comes with a 540-degree camera system, a 360-degree dashcam, and multiple airbags.
One of the features of the Hunter RE-EV is its ability to travel up to 180 kilometers on electric power alone. When the battery is paired with the turbocharged engine, the total range jumps to an impressive 1,031 kilometers, making it a great option for longer trips. You can also plug in the Hunter RE-EV to recharge the battery when needed. The truck also comes with a Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) system that allows the truck’s battery to power external devices using two 220V sockets in the cargo area. The system can power appliances for over 100 hours, making it useful for work or outdoor activities.
Alongside the Hunter RE-EV, Changan also featured models like the Uni-T and CS35 Plus at the event. The Hunter RE-EV gives drivers a hybrid experience, with electric driving and an engine that boosts its range.
