
About last month, reports have been surfacing online that a possibility for a 5-door Suzuki Jimny will come to reality. Now, the brand has cleared the rumored reports, as the stretched model might happen in the near future.
From being a miniature off-roader, the Jimny will expand its line in India with a stretched-out version. However, it is worth noting that this project will not commence anytime soon, apart from the continuous impact of the COVID-19 virus, the brand is also taking some of the heat off its Kosai plant, which has been the solitary Suzuki Jimny assembly line in the world.
Suzuki is known to be India’s biggest carmaker, and it is without surprise that the brand will prioritize this market in producing this 5-door Jimny. While the Jimny may be known to have a standard all-wheel drivetrain, this stretched-up version, however, might offer a two-wheel-drive option which should reduce the overall cost of the vehicle.
Like many other models offered by Maruti Suzuki, the upcoming model shall also have a 1.5L K15B gasoline engine that churns out 101 hp and 130 Nm of torque. We may never know though, given it’s increased dimensions, Suzuki might consider treating this engine with uprated figures. Likewise, buyers will be given a choice of a manual or automatic transmission.
Notably, Maruti Suzuki will import the components of the three-door Jimny from Japan, allowing them to locally assemble the unit. As the COVID-19 crisis begins to subside, perhaps, Suzuki will soon venture into this project. At its Gurgaon facility, the brand aims to produce 100,000 units, the Japanese automaker is expected to commence its manufacturing session by 2022, with the use of local components.
