Good news for current and soon-to-be owners of the latest Ford Ranger. The said pickup truck has recently garnered a 5-star maximum score in the 2015 ASEAN New Car Assessment Program (ASEAN NCAP) safety tests.
The unit tested was the Malaysian spec Ranger XL Double Cab variant. When the results came out, the Ranger stood as the 2nd highest contender in the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) with a score of 15.45 out of 16 points.
Following this milestone, Ford ASEAN President Mr. Mark Kaufman reiterated that Safety is always Ford’s top priority.
We are hugely proud of the results we have achieved and today's announcement is further proof that the new Ranger is true to our ‘Built Ford Tough’ heritage with outstanding levels of safety customers expect in this all-important vehicle segment, he adds.
The Ranger’s high score was largely due to a number of safety features engineers have fitted it with. These include a more rigid body structure, collapsible steering column, and ABS with EBD. The unit tested also came equipped with dual front airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), Roll Over Mitigation (ROM) and ISOFIX for child seat attachment.
Aside from these standard safety features, Ford prides itself with the Ranger’s full load of advanced protective gears as well. These are headed by the Lane Keeping Aid system. This gets utilized by the Lane Keeping Alert and Lane Departure Warning system to signal the driver if the vehicle is veering off its lane or if the driver is drowsy. If the driver fails to react, the Lane Keeping Aid steps in and applies corrective steering inputs to place the vehicle back on course.
Other advanced features include Adaptive Cruise Control with Forward Alert, Front and Rear parking Assist, Adaptive Load Control, and Electronic Stability Program. When going off-road, the Ranger can safely travel up and down slopes via Hill Launch Assist and Hill Descent Control respectively.
Finally, should the situation require hard and fast braking, drivers can count on the Ranger’s Emergency Brake Assistance which applies more braking force to stop in time or to at least minimize collision impact.
