Ford’s souped-up Ranger pickup, the Ranger Raptor, is set to arrive in markets across Asia Pacific this year (Q3 in the Philippines). The Ranger Raptor is infused with Ford Performance DNA, creating an aggressive and capable pickup suitable for any road, or lack thereof. Having recently plowed through the Australian outback with media and guests in tow, the Ranger Raptor brings quite a number of things to the table, making it a formidable challenger in the pickup arena.
One look and you know the Ranger Raptor means business. With 283mm of ground clearance and 150mm wider front and rear track, the Ranger Raptor is imposing. Of course, add in that huge grille with Ford lettering and the Raptor touches shine through. Those wide fenders aren’t just for looks, though, as they are made of durable composite materials that can stand off-road beatings. The added width was also needed to accommodate off-road tires and longer travel suspension. Speaking of tires and suspension, the Ranger Raptor features position sensitive damping shock absorbers exclusively manufactured by FOX. Tires are courtesy of BF Goodrich, and are all-terrain 285/70 KO2 rubber for 17-inch wheels. This combination allows for comfort and grip no matter the driving condition.
We are proud to unleash the Ford Performance version of the highly successful Ford Ranger pickup truck to our customers around the world. Our performance vehicles bring a different customer into Ford showrooms, and Ranger Raptor will help conquest new customers looking for a Ranger with immense off-road capability like no other. We have a passion for bringing the best to our customers, and Ranger Raptor showcases the best of Ford Performance’s expertise in performance vehicle design and engineering.
Looks are one thing, but performance is what matters the most. The Ranger Raptor is powered by a 2.0-liter biturbo diesel engine that delivers 210 hp and 500 Nm of torque, and is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission that’s lightweight yet durable. Having 10 gears means a wider ratio-span, resulting in better acceleration and responsiveness. It also features real-time adaptive shift-scheduling algorithms engineered to optimize gear selection. There’s also the Baja mode in the Ranger Raptor’s terrain management system, allowing for maximum high-speed off-road performance. In this mode, vehicle systems like Traction Control are toned down to allow spirited off-road driving without intervention from the vehicle’s on-board systems. Gear selection is optimized for maximum performance, and the mapping will hold gears longer and downshift more aggressively. When you want to slow down, the Ranger Raptor features large twin piston calipers up front that clamp 332 x 32mm ventilated rotors. Rear rotors are 332 x 23mm, but include a brake actuation master cylinder and booster to increase braking performance.
On the inside, touches of Ford Performance are everywhere. The seats are a technical suede for maximum grip, and blue stitching and leather accents, as well as Raptor logos, can be found in the cabin. A new instrument cluster and perforated steering wheel with magnesium paddle shifters complete the look. A nice touch is the “on-center” marker at the top of the steering wheel, so you know where your wheels are pointing at all times, handy when blazing trails through the wilderness.
On the safety end, the Ranger Raptor gets a host of neat features, such as a breadcrumb feature in the satellite navigation system to leave a trail in uncharted areas. There’s also stability control, incorporating roll mitigation function utilizing sensors to anticipate and minimize oversteer, understeer and rollover incidents.
From what we know, we can expect the Ranger Raptor ro be priced over P2,000,000, but under P3,000,000. We’re hoping it’ll be only slightly over P2,000,000 but you do get all the bells and whistles, plus it’ll be the fastest pickup you can buy in the country today.
The standout experience of the Ranger Raptor, hands down, is how far you can push it off-road versus any other available standard production road vehicle, and still provide amazing ride comfort on-road. Everything about the Ranger Raptor builds on the already outstanding sophisticated feel and functional capability of the Ranger, and then goes further. From a driving dynamics and fun standpoint, it is really an exceptionally special truck.
