Geely Automobile Holdings Limited (Geely Auto) continues to be the best-selling Chinese automobile brand globally. The company was first awarded this honor back in 2017 and since then has grown to what it is today. Geely Auto alone in 2019 has accumulated sales of 1,361,560 units globally in 2019, excluding the sales figures of the brands under it such as Volvo, Lotus, and London Taxi, among others. It is also the third consecutive year that the Chinese automaker has gotten the title.
The global automotive market is facing an unprecedented change not seen in over a century. Challenges and opportunities exist side by side. With the market as the battlefield, Geely Auto will take the user demand as a guide, products as our core, and market share as our goal. We will adhere to a high-quality development strategy, maintain our footing on the uncertain road, compete on technology and brand, accelerate our global expansion, push Chinese manufacturing up the global value chain, and raise the level of Chinese auto brand in the world.
Following the strong sales performance in 2019, Geely has set its annual vehicle sales target at 1.41 million units globally for the 2020 calendar year. The sales goal represents a 3.6% increase from what the company was able to sell in 2019. It is also part of the Chinese brand’s efforts to continue the implementation of its high-quality development strategy with its primary focus being stability.
2020 is looking bright as Geely has plans to launch six new products including the second BMA architecture based SUV. Not much is known about these new vehicles but one is confirmed to be a coupe SUV codenamed “VX11” while the other is said to be a pure electric vehicle from the auto group’s other brand Lynk & Co. The all-electric vehicle is codenamed the “GE13.”Lynk & Co will also officially enter the European market in 2020. It will be competing against world-class brands in Europe.
Locally, Geely has plans to add more cars to its vehicle lineup. The Coolray alone has done well thanks to its excellent pricing and the features that the crossover packs. The Chinese brand has plans to add at least two more vehicles into its portfolio for 2020. If the Coolray’s success is anything to go by, then the new models will also be competitive in the local market. Wanting to serve and reach out to more customers, Geely also has plans to add at least 10 more dealerships to its lineup with another 5 to follow. As to when and in what order these dealerships will open is still unknown, but expect at least a couple of dealerships to open this year.
