With its upcoming global debut just around the corner, Toyota Indonesia gave us a first look of the 2016 all-new Innova with photos highlighting key changes inside and out. Here's a quick tour of its improvements.
The impending Innova now sports a new hexagonal grille with more chrome accents and a bigger radiator air intake. On both sides of the fascia are sleeker LED projector headlights matched with LED daytime running lights (DRL). Outlining the headlights are strips of chrome that extend inward to the grille.
On the side, the window outline narrows towards the back while a more muscular character line sweeps across the doors. These together with the redesigned fender flares make the rear look wider. Meanwhile, the back houses new tail lights that replicate the edgy design of the headlights up front.
Toyota also tinkered with the vehicle’s interior design. Comparing to the outgoing model, the outline of the dash gently curves upward from the passenger’s to the driver’s side. This is then accented with chrome and wood trims.
As for tech, the latest Innova now comes with a new 8-inch touch screen LCD infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity, and AUX-in/SD card playback. What’s great about this headunit is the array of nifty features it has. These include voice command recognition and an air-gesture feature which allows sifting through menus with just a hand’s wave.
The latest Innova will run with Toyota’s new GD series engines. These are the 2.4L inline 4-cylinder diesel engine with variable nozzle turbine (VNT) and the 2.0L inline 4-cylinder gasoline engine with Dual VVT-i. These can be mated with either a 6-speed AT or a 5-speed MT.
At the moment, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has yet to announce when the latest Innova will make its way here in the country. But looking ahead, it can be estimated that it will be locally available early to mid-2016. In the meantime, the current Toyota Innova model is still here to stay.
