It’s official, Kia’s Latest subcompact crossover, the Stonic, is coming to the Philippines. This was confirmed after Kia Philippines posted a teaser via its official social media accounts. It was also indicated that its launch shall commence in October.
The upcoming Kia Stonic is set to go against the likes of the Ford EcoSport and Nissan Juke. This should perhaps give buyers more options in its established lineup which includes the Seltos and Sportage.
The subcompact crossover could get a wide range of color options such as the yellow one which is shown on the teaser photo. Like the Seltos, this Kia Stonic might also come with a black roof option which does add a touch sporty and youthful vibes. In other markets, the other two-tone colors are made available, although we’re still quite not sure if that will be carried over here as well. Its projector-type halogen headlamps with LED daytime running lights give the crossover a rather distinctive frontend. Notably, its sleek and muscular design was recognized by international award-giving bodies such as Red Dot and iF Design.
It was also stated that the Kia Stonic will come with a generous amount of tech features, this includes its seamless infotainment system that's standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Safety was also a priority for this crossover, as it will also feature rear parking sensors with a reverse camera, Electronic Stability Control, and Hill Start Assist.
Its engine remains a mystery, for now, however, we might just get some of those three familiar powerplants from the UK-based Kia Stonic. Namely, there could be a 1.0-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder engine or a 1.4-liter gasoline engine. The possibilities are limitless, perhaps, Kia Motors Philippines might also consider releasing the 1.6-liter diesel engine. The following engines could either be paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission or a 6-speed manual just in case the brand still wants a stick shift for the crossover’s line of variants. Then again, these technicalities are based on pure assumptions.
As for pricing, our senses tell us that the SRP of this subcompact crossover will range from P900,000 up to P1,200,000 or so. Given that this is subcompact crossover territory, these figures could overlap with its sibling, the Kia Seltos, giving consumers a rather interesting dilemma when sifting through Kia’s stable if speculations hold true.
October is near approaching, and things are getting pretty exciting given the constant vehicle launch of different brands. With that, the brand shall generate much anticipation from consumers with its soon to be launched subcompact crossover. Therefore, keep your eyes peeled and stay tuned for more scrumptious updates of the upcoming Kia Stonic.
