Mazda Philippines has added a new vehicle to its local lineup in the form of the all-new Mazda BT-50. The new pickup truck sports a new 3.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine and is available in three variants. It also comes with a styling design that is unique to Mazda while retaining a tough look that pickup trucks are known for.
Exterior
On the outside, the all-new Mazda BT-50 takes on the automaker’s familiar KODO design language. This gives the pickup truck a similar look to its large crossover counterparts such as the Mazda CX-8 and Mazda CX-9. The new BT-50 comes with a large grille flanked on either side by LED headlights paired with LED daytime running lights. It also comes with a special skid plate for its higher-end models and a more discrete one for its lower-end variants.
Moving onto the side and the rear of the vehicle and comes with a more minimalistic design. There aren’t too many loud cuts and creases along the side and even at the rear as the pickup truck gives off a more sculpted and fluid design. The BT-50 can be had with either 18-inch or 17-inch wheels depending on the variant. The higher tier model gets the petal-like design, while the entry-level variant gets the multi-spoke wheels. For the higher variant, the wheel design is reminiscent of what was seen on the older version of the wheel.
Interior and tech
On the inside, the Mazda BT-50 comes with a simple yet well-designed dashboard that matches well with the overall design aesthetic of the vehicle. It comes with either leather or cloth as its material option for its seats. Aside from this it also has automatic climate control and has rear vents to better help cool the vehicle.
For its infotainment system, it has a 7 or 9-inch infotainment system depending on the variant chosen. The pickup truck also has cruise control as standard for all models, with the 4x4 variant getting adaptive cruise control instead.
Safety
In terms of safety, the Mazda BT-50 comes with Dual SRS airbags for the 4x2 model, 7 SRS airbags for the 4x4 model, ABS with EBD, stability control with traction control, a reverse parking camera as standard, rear parking sensors, hill descent control, and hill launch assist.
The 4x4 version of the pickup truck comes with more features such as lane departure warning, push to start and stop key, autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert., automatic highway control, and forward-collision warning.
Power
Under the hood, the all-new Mazda BT-50 is powered by a new 3.0-liter turbo diesel engine that produces 187 hp and 450 Nm of torque. It shifts via a 6-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual that sends power to the rear or all four wheels depending on the variant.
Pricing
As for its pricing, Mazda Philippines has positioned the new BT-50 very competitively. For its entry-level variant, it starts at P1,390,000 for the 4x2 MT model, while at its most expensive it will cost P1,790,000 for its 4x4 AT variant.
Mazda is also offering something special for those who will reserve the first 200 units of the BT-50 in its 4x2 AT and 4x4 AT variants. The automaker is giving these first few units free fender flares, a new scuff plate, and a bed cover which total up to P80,000 worth of accessories.
