After the recent smashing success of the 2022 Manila International Motor Show (MIAS 2022), in which over 120,000 people attended the four-day event, there has been some speculation regarding the impending comeback of its rival and counterpart, the Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS).
As MIAS 2022 has come and gone, all eyes naturally turn to the PIMS and its proprietor, the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines (CAMPI). It has been nearly four years since the last PIMS event, and fans have no doubt been feeling its absence.
According to Top Gear Philippines and several other automotive publications, we might not have to wait longer to see PIMS return to the World Trade Center. Their source reportedly stated that PIMS 2022 has been greenlit, although no announcements have been made as of now.
PIMS has historically been a biennial event, happening every two years in around September or October. If the news of PIMS’ return proves true, it’s still several months away, and CAMPI could be waiting for the hype around MIAS to simmer down before it makes any moves.
Still, it could turn out to be an exciting event, as CAMPI members include Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Isuzu, Kia, and more. A representative from Honda Cars Philippines also recently confirmed to us the brand’s intentions to join the next edition of PIMS.
The stage is set for a triumphant return for one of the country’s premier motoring shows. In keeping with the theme of the times, we might see more hybrid and electrified vehicles showcased this time around. We think it would be the perfect platform to help accelerate the Philippines’ transition to EVs and sustainable energy. In any case, we’ll have to wait for CAMPI to confirm things on their end before we get excited about the possible staging of the 2022 edition of PIMS. Who knows, your favorite new car models could also be making their debut at the coming auto show as well.
