San Miguel Corporation (SMC) is fast tracking its construction of the Skyway extension project. In line with this, road closures were implemented effective February 20, 2021, in order to swiftly accomplish the said project and make the Skyway System even more accessible to motorists from South Luzon.
SMC’s Skyway Extension project aims to connect the elevated expressway from Skyway Main Line Toll Plaza in Sucat, Paranaque to Susana Heights at SLEX and back. The Alabang southbound exit toll plaza has just been closed due to the ongoing construction, with that, drivers can expect heavy traffic in the area. This in mind, it’s best to plan your trip in advance. Below are alternative routes advised for motorists traversing the area:
- Class 1 headed to Alabang or Alabang-Zapote Rd. can take the Filinvest Exit Toll Plaza towards their destination.
- Class 1, 2, and 3 vehicles bound for Alabang, Putatan, and National Road can take the Susana Exit Toll Plaza, then turn right at Susana Heights Ave., and turn either left or right on the National Road to their destinations.
The construction project will include the installation of girders, coping beams, and precast slabs. While this may inconvenience many for now, SMC President and Chief Operating Officer Ramon S. Ang has promised that the minor inconveniences presently experienced by motorists would be worth it once the construction project is completed. Ang has appealed for patience and understanding from motorists in the south, and from residents in the area while the construction phase is ongoing.
There is no way of getting around this key stage in construction. We really have to do it. It will be a temporary inconvenience, but I promise you, the benefits, eliminating traffic and providing seamless travel, will be well worth it.
Once completed, the Skyway extension will reward motorists with a much faster travel time from north to south and vice-versa, as well as provide seamless access for south residents to the Skyway system.
