Similar to that of the Metropolitan Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) the San Miguel Corporation (SMC) will soon be transitioning into a fully cashless system. This means that motorists that commonly ply these expressways will soon be required to buy RFIDs.
The shift to a full cashless payment system is a directive set about by the Department of Transportation (DOTr). In fact, the government body has released a department order on the matter stating that by November 2, 2020, all major expressways are to utilize a cashless system. This was done in order to help prevent the spread of the still ongoing pandemic.
We have completed the reconfiguration of these cashless lanes to help ensure a smooth transition and hopefully, minimal delays for motorists. Implementing this measure is a priority for us because it is in line with government health regulations and it will better protect both our motorists and expressway employees.
The question still remains where and how will the general public be able to get their hands on the newly required RFID stickers? SMC has released a comprehensive list as to where and how customers can obtain the new cashless device.
