The 2021 Subaru Evoltis is finally launched in the Philippines. Following a delay in its release, which was slated for April 24, the model finds itself available come May 10, 2021. The 7-seat crossover has an unorthodox seating arrangement, with a 2-2-3 configuration. The wide stance of the vehicle allows it to fit up to three individuals in the rear, and have captain’s seats in the middle row. Only one variant of the Evoltis will be available in the Philippines, the 2.4 Touring EyeSight.
Exterior
The Evoltis comes with the standard Subaru style, with squared-off and edgy lines that make it a strong-looking crossover. Similar to the Forester, the Evoltis is essentially a rebadged Ascent that is sold in other markets. It gets LED headlights that flank a large grille outlined with chrome accents. The rear features a chrome strip that joins the rear lamps that hover over a dual exhaust system finished by two chrome exhaust tips. On top of that, it gets up to 220 mm of ground clearance.
Color options for the Evoltis include Crystal White Pearl, Ice Silver Metallic, Crystal Black Silica, Crimson Red Pearl, and a brand-new color—Abyss Blue Pearl.
Interior
The Evoltis is welcoming to any and all that wish to ride. Leather upholstery allows occupants to bathe in luxury as well as ride in comfort. Space is plentiful as the wide track of the vehicle allows more horizontal space for passengers. Captain’s chairs are available as the only option. The Evoltis competes with the likes of the Mazda CX-8 and is even priced similarly to the crossover. It’s really its 2-2-3 seating configuration that makes it a unique value proposition in the market. To add to the ambiance of the interior, you also get a 54-inch panoramic sunroof, and a 3-zone automatic climate control system with rear-seat controls.
The comfort and versatility of a crossover are already two substantial reasons that make the segment popular in the Philippines and around the world. Practicality follows luxury with the Evoltis since it has up to 4,700 liters worth of cargo space in its vast cabin area.
Tech and safety
As for tech, the Evoltis comes jam-packed with the latest and greatest from Subaru. The 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system comes with a 14-speaker Harman/Kardon audio system that has is rated at 792-watts. You also get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for added convenience and versatility.
The renowned tech package, Subaru Eye-Sight, is available and a standard package on the Evoltis. As such, expect Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-Collision Braking, Pre-Collision Throttle Management, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Sway Warning, and Lead Vehicle Start Alert among other features that are governed by a sophisticated stereo-camera system.
Engine and drivetrain
Powering the Evoltis is Subaru’s newest large-displacement turbocharged flat 4 that produces 260 hp and 375 Nm of torque mated to a Lineartronic CVT. The FA24, has enough power and torque to rival the flat 6 that is found in the Subaru Outback, and it also has a 5,000 pound towing capacity. As for its drivetrain, like all Subarus, it comes with a Symmetrical AWD system with Subaru’s trademark X-MODE.
Price
Only one variant of the Evoltis will be made available in the Philippines, and it will retail for P3,480,000. Considering the kit that it comes with, it has a lot of the features that you can find in the high-end segment of the market, but for a price that is substantially lighter on the pocket.
