From just a concept car that debuted at the 45th Tokyo Motor Show, the Xbee (cross-bee) has finally come into production and officially launched in Japan.
According to Suzuki, this Xbee is a compact crossover wagon, which falls into a new genre. The company said that it has the spacious interior of a wagon and driving performance of an SUV. Moreover, it is said to meet the standards of a wide range of lifestyle from city driving to leisure, and even outdoor activities.
The Xbee features a boxy exterior that has silver accents on its headlamps, grille, and front bumper. Its overall style gives off a sporty and tough impression.

Inside, this little crossover can seat up to 5 people comfortably. The Xbee may be small in size but its 4WD variant is capable of controlling 2 modes – Sports and Snow. It also comes standard with Hill Descent Control (HDC) and Grip control to prevent spinning the wheels in slippery and muddy roads.
All variants are run by a 1L turbocharged engine with mild hybrid assistance, for a total output of 101 hp and 200 Nm of torque. This powertrain is then coupled to a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Aside from the Xbee base, the customers can choose 2 other trims. The Outdoor Adventure gets an ivory exterior shade and wooden panels. The other one is the Street Adventure that has contrasting colors, as well as map-themed panels.
For safety, the Xbee is equipped with features such as 360° 3D view and Suzuki Safety Support, which comprises Dual Sensor Brake Support (DSBS) collision-mitigating system, and a back-up brake support traffic alert system.
To give you an idea, the price of this hybrid crossover ranges from 1,765,800 yen (around P777,000) to 2,145,960 yen (around P945,000). Too bad, as of this writing, the Xbee is available in Japanese market only. So, will this Xbee remain a dream? We never know yet.
