Toyota USA has given a sneak peek of the highly anticipated Land Cruiser, scheduled to make its global debut on August 1, 2023, which is August 2 here in the Philippines. This new model bears a striking resemblance to the 60 series Land Cruiser, a popular SUV from the 80s, bringing a touch of nostalgia to modern times.
The front and rear design elements of the all-new Land Cruiser pay homage to the classic J60 Land Cruiser. The front fascia features rectangular LED headlights reminiscent of the later versions of the J60, which were equipped with rectangular quad halogen headlights. This blend of modern and classic styling creates a unique and appealing look for the new Land Cruiser Prado.
Moving to the side profile, the silhouette of the all-new Land Cruiser Prado closely resembles the boxy station wagon body style of the J60 Land Cruiser. The LC60, known for its blend of comfort and off-road capability during the early days of the SUV market, seems to have inspired the design direction for this new iteration.
At the rear, the center garnish and rectangular taillights of the all-new Land Cruiser further evoke the spirit of the J60 Land Cruiser, translating its iconic features into a contemporary design language.
There are no interior photos yet asides from the center console, which showcases a four-wheel drive toggle that resembles the Lexus GX.
Rumors and leaked information indicate that the Land Cruiser will offer a choice of three four-cylinder engines. The first is a 2.8-liter turbodiesel engine, likely shared with the current-gen Hilux and Fortuner, promising both power and efficiency. The second option is a 2.7-liter naturally aspirated inline-four gasoline engine, named the 2TR-FE, which should deliver reliable performance. The third engine is a 2.4-liter gasoline turbo, possibly derived from the Tacoma, which may provide a sportier driving experience.
Though there's no official word on whether the 2.4-liter gasoline turbo will come with a hybrid system, enthusiasts and potential buyers eagerly await the full reveal to find out. With only a week remaining until Toyota USA lifts the covers off the all-new LC Prado, the suspense and excitement are building.
The Land Cruiser’s fusion of classic design cues with modern features is sure to appeal to Land Cruiser enthusiasts and SUV lovers alike. As the global debut date approaches, all eyes are on Toyota USA to showcase the full extent of the Land Cruiser’s capabilities and features. Car enthusiasts around the world are eager to witness the next chapter in the Land Cruiser legacy and see how Toyota has combined the spirit of the iconic J60 with contemporary automotive innovations.
Fingers crossed that this next-generation Land Cruiser model will be made available here in the Philippines. If it does, we could expect this to be named the Land Cruiser Prado to replace the current aging generation of the Prado.
