What if your next car could run on gas, LPG, and electricity? Kia has introduced the Niro Tri-Fuel, a hybrid that runs on gasoline, LPG, and electricity, making it a really interesting car for those looking to save on fuel costs. With a range of 1,000 miles (about 1,600 kilometers) on a full tank, this car provides a solution for long-distance drivers who want to reduce gas expenses. With hybrids becoming more popular in the Philippines, could the Niro Tri-Fuel make its way to our local market?
What makes the Niro Tri-Fuel different is its extra LPG tank, located under the cargo area where you’d usually find the spare tire. The 10.5-gallon tank, with the 11.1-gallon gasoline tank, allows the vehicle to cover more ground on a single fill-up. The extended range could be a great alternative for drivers in the Philippines who usually travel long distances and don’t want to worry about constantly stopping for fuel.

The Niro Tri-Fuel is currently launching in Italy, where it’s the first hybrid that can run on LPG, which not only extends its range but also reduces CO2 emissions by 6% compared to a regular hybrid. That’s another pro for drivers looking to be more eco-friendly! The car is powered by a 1.6-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine producing 90 hp, along with an electric motor that delivers 43 hp. Together, they provide a total output of 126 hp and 264 Nm of torque. Drivers can easily switch between gasoline and LPG with a button located near the start/stop button.
As for costs, the Niro Tri-Fuel is priced higher than the regular model, with a €2,000 (around ₱130,000) premium. However, Kia estimates that owners could save as much as €5,000 (₱325,000) in fuel costs over time, making it the better choice in the long run. Pricing starts at €34,450 (around P2M) for the base model and goes up to €39,200 (about P2.2M) for the top variant.
With more hybrids becoming popular in the Philippines, the Kia Niro Tri-Fuel might be a great addition to the market.
