With its predecessor staying in the beat for two decades, you would probably expect the 2019 Suzuki Jimny to have improved a lot. And it does – not only in style, performance, practicality, and, uh, space, but also in terms of the features that come with the car.
Here’s a closer look at the technology and safety features of the all-new Jimny in its range-topping GLX trim.
Technology: Huge improvement from before
What’s included: digital trip meter, speed-sensing door locks, automatic LED headlights with manual leveler, cruise control, automatic air-conditioning with pollen filter, rear camera with sensors, auto up/down window (driver), and 9-inch multimedia infotainment that has a clinometer, offline navigation, and four speakers.
The 2019 Suzuki Jimny has improved a lot from its predecessor in terms of the techie features it can offer. The list above is available in the top-level GLX trim, with the lower GL variant gets devoid of rear parking camera, cruise control, auto LED headlights, auto climate control, clinometer, and two-fewer speakers.
The clinometer displays an illustration of the Jimny and it displays information in real time, which is very useful when you’re off-roading. The rear parking camera display is wide and clear, too. The other features behave like clockwork, except for a few complaints.
What you won’t like: Lack of Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, some glitches on the infotainment system, and the sound from the four speakers needs a lot of improvement.
Smartphone integration is slowly becoming a selling point in modern cars and the epitome of seamless connectivity are Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Sadly, the Jimny isn’t integrated with both, although, you could connect your phone via Bluetooth or in the case of Apple users, through the USB/iPod connection.
There were some glitches as well. There were moments when the screen just locked out and turned itself off with the music continuously running in the background. I had to pull over and switch off the engine in order to resolve the situation. Plus, the sound from the four speakers is a bit disappointing, so you might want to consider upgrading those if you’re going to buy this car.
Safety: Not the best, but sufficient
What’s included: dual front airbags, seatbelt reminders for the driver and passenger, 3-point seatbelts for every occupant, two ISOFIX tethers, side impact door beams, hill hold control, hill descent control, ABS with brake assist function, stability control, and reverse proximity sensors.
The all-new Suzuki Jimny got a dismal score at the Euro NCAP, but that doesn’t mean that it is an unsafe vehicle. In fact, with the safety features that come with the car, you won’t feel precarious during the actual drive. Trust me – I took the Jimny media tester on a 6-hour drive to Baler and it was quite a safe journey.
