The Trans Sport Show is home to beautifully restored and the best customized cars. But this year, it will also host the best car currently sold locally according to the Car Awards Group Inc. (CAGI) – the reigning Car of the Year - Philippines (COTY PH), the Mazda2 SkyActiv R.
This sporty 4-door subcompact sedan dominated a field of over 60 cars during the CAGI Test Fest last year. It’s also one of the many vehicles from the current Mazda lineup to bag an award.
It is an honor for us at CAGI to participate in this year’s Trans Sport Show,” said Robby Consunji, President of the Car Awards Group, Inc. “We pray that this will be the start of a lasting partnership between our organizations with the goal of educating the motoring public.”
The Mazda2 SkyActiv R is the top range variant of the model and is priced at P925,000. However, the value is well-justified by the many good traits which made it COTY PH.
Off the bat, this subcompact sedan is gorgeous thanks to Mazda’s KODO – Soul of Motion design philosophy. This gives the “2” its dynamic, aggressive look that most of us love.
Inside, it boasts a 7-inch touchscreen entertainment system and the MZD Connect. It can sync to a smartphone via Bluetooth to play music, receive texts, make calls, and use its navigation which can be conveniently controlled by the commander knob.
Moreover, this car comes loaded with other interior amenities that keep the driver’s eyes on the road such as a heads-up display and steering wheel controls.
Under the hood is a 4-cylinder 1.5 L SkyActiv engine that can provide a sporty performance but yield an efficient 15.73 km/L combined fuel economy rating. This is then mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission with Sport Mode and paddle shifters.
As for safety, the Mazda2 SkyActiv R comes equipped with driver and front passenger airbags, ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), immobilizer, and security alarm.
Owners can also enjoy Mazda’s YOJIN3 TOTAL CARE, which is their way of keeping its loyal customers happy. This offers free 3-year or 60,000 km periodic maintenance service, roadside assistance, concierge service, and a 3-year or 100,000 km warranty.
Established in 2004, the Car Awards Group, Inc. is the longest-running organization of motoring journalists in the country today. Since its incorporation, the group has strived to find the best vehicles in the country through independent and comprehensive testing. CAGI’s testing and scoring process is composed of qualitative and quantitative criteria, plus other factors such as safety features and pricing compared to its competitors.
