The current BMW 2-series is already a wonderful car thanks to its good looks and dynamic engine. But with the 2017 model due to be released soon, what can make this car even more exciting? Well, the engineers of the German brand thought of adding more horses with the help of a new Twin Power Turbo power plant.
Under the hood of the 230i Coupe and Convertible variants is the latest generation 4-cylinder 2.0 L engine that is capable of producing 248 hp and 350 Nm of torque. To put things in perspective, that’s a huge 64 hp and 80 Nm of torque increase as compared to its predecessor.
Meanwhile, the M240i will be receiving an inline 6-cylinder engine that can squeeze out 335 hp and 500 Nm of torque. It will come standard with an 8-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission.
Even though it’s just 9 hp and 50 Nm of torque more than its predecessor, it can launch the coupe from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds.
This motorsport bred coupe will also have the BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive with launch control. To further enhance road contact, the M249i is equipped with 18-inch M wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Tires.
On the other hand, there’s also a rear-wheel-drive option for the M240i which can be mated to a 6-speed stick shift with rev matching capabilities for no additional cost.
Other features in the M Performance model are M Sport braking system with fixed multi-piston callipers, Variable Sport Steering with Servotronic function, and the M Sport suspension which lowers the ride height by 10 mm. The M240i also comes with the model-specific M aerodynamic package and mirror caps in Ferric Grey Metallic giving the coupe an aggressive stance.
The new generation engine is a nice addition to an already impressive car. The BMW 2-series will be a good choice for professionals who want a car that’s both fun and classy to drive.
The M230i and M240i will be launched within this year. While we wait for that to happen, the current 220i and M235i are still on sale locally.
