Participating at this year’s North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) is Subaru with refreshed models, the 2018 WRX and WRX STI. Both cars debuted with enhancements in performance, comfort, design, and safety; aimed to offer consumers a better driving experience.
This confirms the previous reports that both models won’t be having much changes rather than a facelift. It’s quite expected, though, as it usually takes about 4 to 5 years for a car to have a full model cycle. The current generation WRX was just released back in 2015, so fans of this high-performance sedan may have to wait for a few more years for an all-new model.
Of note, changes include a larger lower grille opening compared to the locally available model. Moreover, the facelifted cars feature a redesigned LED steering responsive headlights that adapts to curved roads, illuminating corners during nighttime driving.
Inside the cabin, a larger 5.9-inch high-definition multi-function display is integrated to provide the driver an easier way to glance at vehicle functions. More so, the door glass is now thicker for a quieter drive, while door sealing and the foam-filled windshield header beam were also revised.
As for safety, the front structure of both models is revised, enhancing frontal collision performance. Limited variants, however, get a new vehicle hold (AVH) feature and eyesight assist monitor (EAM). As a replacement for the Hill Holder and Hill Assist, the AVH functions better by providing a seamless transition to acceleration when a car is at rest, further reducing driver’s fatigue.
Unfortunately, there were no engine updates for these performance-oriented models from Subaru. However, with the current ground-breaking BOXER engine and symmetrical all-wheel drive system in place, would you really ask for more?
The 2018 Subaru WRX and WRX STI are set to reach U.S. retailers sometime in March this year.
