In recent news, the Renault-Nissan Alliance acquired 34% stake in Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, a huge leap for the French-Japanese tie-up. Through this deal, Nissan was able to open its doors again into working on a new Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV).
According to Auto Express, Nissan has confirmed the return of its PHEV; hinted that they are now working for a new one for Europe.
Our current priority is to shift into EVs for the future, but we still need a bridge,” said Nissan’s European R&D boss Takashi Shirakawa.
As a review, the recent acquisition of over a quarter of Mitsubishi’s stake allowed the three automakers to cut down production cost, as well as share a common EV platform for future projects. This could be a factor that made it easy to allot budget for a back-project.
Moreover, a discussion is in process, allowing Nissan to share Mitsubishi’s existing Outlander PHEV for its next-generation products.
