The Honda CR-V stands for “Comfortable Runabout Vehicle.” As its name implies, the compact crossover has proven itself to be a worthy choice for many modern Filipino families with the urban jungle being their territory. It was in the late '90s when the Philippines saw the beginning of what is now one of the most popular automotive categories in the country. Three decades later, the CR-V remains to be one of the most prominent nameplates in the segment. It now has six illustrious generations under its belt, with its latest generation now featuring a hybrid drivetrain.
The CR-V is available in three variants, the 1.5-liter V Turbo CVT, the 1.5-liter VX Turbo CVT AWD, and the hybrid 2.0 RS e:HEV CVT. The non-hybrid variants have third-row seating to accommodate a total of seven passengers while the RS e:HEV CVT is available only as a five-seater model.
The sixth-generation Honda CR-V debuted worldwide on July 12, 2023. A year and two months later, Honda’s compact crossover made it to the Philippines launching on September 13, 2023. The base model V Turbo had a launch price of P2,100,000, followed by the VX Turbo CVT AWD with P2,280,000, and ending with the most expensive model in the lineup, the RS e:HEV CVT with a P2,590,000 price tag.
The generation before the current model originally entered the Philippine market on August 8, 2017. It came available with four variants and two engine options. This generation of the CR-V was notable due to the availability of a diesel option alongside the usual gasoline engine.
On October 22, 2020, Honda Philippines would later refresh the compact crossover and launch it alongside its stablemate the Honda City. The Japanese brand also added the Honda SENSING safety suite to the CR-V a few months later. For the sixth generation, Honda SENSING is standard equipment right after launch.
The Honda CR-V comes in a compact crossover form factor that utilizes the Honda Architecture Platform and comes in either a front-engine front-wheel-drive or front-engine all-wheel-drive layout. Engine options for the crossover include a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine and a hybrid 2.0-liter Atkinson cycle engine with a dual motor hybrid setup. The pure internal combustion powertrain makes 187 hp at 6,000 rpm and 240 Nm of torque between the 1,500 and 1,700 rpm range. On the other hand, the hybrid powertrain pumps out 146 hp at 6,100 rpm and 183 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm. Both engine options meet the EURO 4 requirements for the Philippines.
As for its suspension, the Honda CR-V rides on MacPherson struts at the front and a multi-link suspension setup at the rear. Stopping power comes from ventilated disc brakes at the front and solid discs at the rear. All variants in the CR-V range ride on top of 18-inch wheels, these are wrapped in 235/60/R18 size tires.

The Honda CR-V features a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Honda Connect, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto connectivity. Other connectivity features include Bluetooth Handsfree Telephone, Audio Streaming, and USB ports at the front and rear.
All variants of the CR-V are equipped with a 10-inch digital instrument cluster that can display fuel range, the in-car navigation system, a driver attention display, warnings, as well as customization settings. In terms of comfort, the CR-V has intelligent automatic climate control, eight-way power adjust seats for the driver, and smart keyless entry. The base variant of the CR-V gets a wide-view reverse camera while the VX and RS variants get a multi-view 360-degree reverse camera.
At first glance, it’s easy to tell that the all-new CR-V has evolved in terms of looks from the fifth-generation model it replaced. Gone are the curves of the past generation and in comes a much more muscular, straight-edged appearance. The all-new CR-V is longer and wider than before, in fact, it’s 41 mm longer and 11 mm wider than the previous model, contributing to its more dominant stance.
Starting with the front fascia, the CR-V’s front end is reminiscent of the eleventh-generation Civic. The headlights are sleek and understated, flanking a black, mesh-pattern grille. At the sides, you’ll find an L-shaped trim housing the DRLs as well as a vertical air intake that complements the lower grille and provides the CR-V with a square-jawed look.
Moving to the side, there are slight differences depending on the variant of the CR-V chosen. The V and VX variants appear more rugged with black mudguards, wheel arches, and side skirts. Meanwhile, the RS e:HEV has body-colored trim pieces and piano-black alloy wheels, giving it a more premium presence.
The back has been given a major redesign as well, though the CR-V retains the vertical taillights, the rear end is less curved than before with the license plate mounting point sitting higher. The bumper is beefier with reflective strips flanking the sides. The hybrid CR-V differs from the rest of its stablemates as it has dual faux exhaust tips to give it a sportier look.
On the inside, the Honda CR-V sports a black interior with black leather seats for all variants. The RS receives a special touch with red stitching accompanying the black leather upholstery.
The dashboard of the new CR-V has a modern and ergonomic design. It houses the instrument cluster behind the steering wheel, providing essential information like speed, fuel level, and vehicle status. In the center of the dashboard is the nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system. This system allows for easy access to features such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, and various audio options.
The interior is studded with premium materials and accents. Comfortable and intuitive, the CR-V’s interior layout is designed to be pleasing to passengers whether they’re in front or on the rear seats.
Designed to be safe in all aspects, the CR-V features active and passive safety features. The CR-V’s focus on safety starts with the Advanced Compatibility Engineering body construction which aims to provide a safer and more resistant shell for passengers in the event of a crash. Furthermore, the CR-V sports a full suite of 10 airbags, strategically placed in vulnerable areas around the interior.
For the 2024 Honda CR-V, all variants are fitted with the Honda SENSING safety suite as standard. This gives the vehicle new safety features such as Collision Mitigation Braking System, Road Departure Mitigation, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Lead Car Departure Notification, Adaptive Cruise Control, Low-Speed Follow, and Lane Keep Assist.
For day-to-day driving, the CR-V provides extra piece of mind while parking with four parking sensors and a reverse camera. The e:HEV steps it up a notch, featuring a total of eight parking sensors for the rear and front end as well as a 360-degree parking camera. Anti-theft features like a car alarm and engine immobilizer are standard across all variants.

The Honda CR-V comes with a diesel engine in the Philippines, however, a gasoline-powered variant is also available for the lower trim-levels.
A facelifted CR-V was launched in 2019, which will presumably come in 2020 for a complete lineup change for Honda Cars Philippines.
The top-spec CR-V SX variant is the only trim level that comes as an all-wheel-drive in the Philippines. Other variants only come as front-wheel drive.
The name of the Honda CR-V is play on the initials of the phrase Compact Recreational Vehicle.
Based on our reviews, whether you're looking at the gasoline or diesel variant of the CR-V, it presents a good compact SUV offering for any car buyer. It's spacious and can provide power when needed, plus it's laden with tech features that make driving safe and convenient.
