The Toyota Yaris Cross is a subcompact crossover SUV produced by the Japanese automaker Toyota. It belongs to the Yaris family and is designed to offer a blend of versatility, efficiency, and urban-friendly features. The model's creation was undertaken by Daihatsu in collaboration with Toyota, forming a joint internal entity named Emerging-market Compact Car Company (ECC). The project was overseen by chief engineer Toru Uda. It is built upon the DNGA-B platform, sharing its underpinnings with the AC100 series Vios/Yaris sedan.
Launch
The AC200 series Toyota Yaris Cross was unveiled to the world in Indonesia on 15 May 2023 with production commencing a month later on June 13, 2023. The Yaris Cross is available with two engine options, the pure internal combustion 2NR-VE, and the hybrid 2NR-VEX.
A few months later, Toyota Philippines brought the Yaris Cross into the country after teasing it in the month of July. The Yaris Cross was officially made available to Filipino buyers on August 4, 2023, three months after its global debut. At launch, the Yaris Cross had a launch price of P1,199,000 for the G CVT variant, P1,306,000 for the V CVT variant, and P1,598,000 for the hybrid S HEV variant. Color options available for the Yaris Cross include Attitude Black, Greenish Gun Metal, Scarlet SE, Scarlet SE / Attitude Black Two-Tone, Dark Turquoise SE, Dark Turquoise SE / Attitude Black Two-Tone, White Pearl, and White Pearl / Attitude Black Two-Tone. The Greenish Gun Metal paint is only available for the G CVT and V CVT variants of the Yaris Cross. Meanwhile, the Dark Turquoise SE and White Pearl paint schemes are exclusive for the V CVT variant while the two-tone versions of the aforementioned colors are exclusive to the range-topping S Hybrid Yaris Cross.
Platform, Chassis and Powertrain
The Yaris Cross is built on Daihatsu’s DNGA-B (Daihatsu New Global Architecture) platform, which is shared with the fourth-generation, AC100 Vios/Yaris sedan. This means the high-riding Yaris Cross has the same wheelbase as the AC100 Vios/Yaris but with some extra length, width, and height.
Powertrain options meanwhile consist of a selection of gasoline and hybrid engines. The pure internal combustion engined Yaris Cross is powered by Toyota’s 2NR-VE engine which puts out 105 hp at 6,000 RPM and 138 Nm of torque at 4,200 RPM. On the other hand, the hybrid Yaris Cross is equipped with the 2NR-VEX engine which generates 91 hp at 5,500 RPM and 121 Nm of torque at 4,800 RPM.

It features bold lines and an athletic stance, combining elements of an SUV with the compact dimensions of a hatchback, overall, the Yaris Cross looks like a slightly smaller, more agile-looking Corolla Cross. The front fascia includes a distinctive grille design and sleek headlights, while the rear has a tailgate-mounted spoiler and LED taillights. Alloy wheels, roof rails, and black plastic cladding around the wheel arches serve to continue the Yaris Cross’ athletic and rugged appearance.
Interior
The Yaris Cross’ interior offers a comfortable and functional cabin for both the driver and passengers. Despite its compact size, Toyota has made an effort to maximize interior space and practicality. The interior is simple and straightforward, the Yaris Cross’ interior and the dashboard, in particular, do not feature much curvature, instead, one will find straight-edged cuts and geometric-shaped interior trim inside, this design choice is prominent in the infotainment housing, the crash pad, as well as the air vents and center console.
Safety
Toyota places a strong emphasis on safety, and the Yaris Cross come equipped with a range of safety features and technologies. Standard safety features include multiple airbags, stability control, anti-lock brakes (ABS), and a rearview camera. Higher trim levels offer additional advanced safety systems such as adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and automatic emergency braking as part of the Toyota Safety Sense suite.
