Ladies’ choice for Women’s Month, the Ford Ranger achieved a lot in such a short time. It managed to impress us when it was first launched, and it managed to impress a lot more people. Leading up to this week, the Ranger was already Ford’s best-seller and a beloved platform for all.
When it comes to pickup trucks, few come close to the “lifestyle” that the Ranger offers. In fact, its reputation is that of a lifestyle truck, something that’s not a pure workhorse, but it still can be. As such, here are the reasons why we think that the Ranger deserves recognition this Women’s Month, and also why it was chosen to be the pickup of the year by a certain jury of journalists all around the world.
Women’s World Car of the Year 2023 (Pickup and 4x4)
Car of the week, but also the pickup of the year. As we celebrate Women’s Month, an all-female selection of automotive journalists have weighed in, and crowned the Ford Ranger as the best pickup and 4x4 for 2023.
Ford celebrates women’s month in the best way possible, with one of its cars being the Pickup and 4x4 of choice of the Women’s World Car of the Year (WWCOTY) judges. A jury of 63 female motoring journalists selected the Ranger. The journalists come from 45 different countries, spanning five continents, and they’re currently the only all-women jury in the automotive industry.
The vote for the Ford ranger is strong, and the criteria for voting were difficult to top. Categories range from technology, design, efficiency, environmental impact, and value for money, all of which were categories that the Ranger nailed according to the judges.
“Having worked on the new Ranger right from the beginning, I know how much customer feedback was poured into the truck to ensure it was fit for work, family, and play. And, as a mother, I can fully appreciate the truck’s practicality and versatility. Thank you to the Women’s World Car of the Year jury for this award, which recognizes Ranger’s global appeal and ultimate capability.”
Charisma
The Ford Ranger looks quite charismatic, a trait that’s definitely universally admired. The front fascia of the model is home to massive headlights and LED runnings lights that give it an imposing presence on the road. Its big grille adds a ton of dimension to it, and it is unmistakably a Ford Ranger. The look is fantastic in our opinion, and apparently, it was also enough to net the vote of many buys and the panel of judges for World Car of the Year.
Practicality
As mentioned by Natasha Milner, the Ranger’s development team poured the customer feedback into the pickup truck, resulting in a machine that is “fit for work, family, and play.” The versatility that it offers is pretty hard to beat given that it is a pickup truck, but also considering that the model has all the features that it flaunts is just sweet, sweet icing on the cake. It can fit your family, and cargo at the same time, and the Ranger is also a well-documented pickup truck, with many reviewers and journalists noting how good it is at handling bumps and potholes.
Safety
Ford doesn’t skip out on safety, and that’s a win in our books. The Ranger has gotten a ton of upgrades and refinements, but we still feel that the model’s safety systems are still top-of-its-class with the Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go and Lane Centering, Autonomous Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Forward Collision Warning, and Blind Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert & Braking and comes with standard 6 or 7 (for Wildtrak variants) airbags.
A brand that listens
These developments didn’t solely come from Ford, but their huge userbase that was eager to see a better Ranger. The brand listened to more than 5,000 interviews worldwide to get the feedback on the new model. On top of that, Ford meticulously tested the Ranger through millions of kilometers in total, across 10 different countries.
With that, it’s our car of the week
With all, that’s happened, and all the great things that we’ve heard, it’s a bit of a no-brainer to recognize the Ranger for all that it has achieved and all the work that Ford’s put into it. Getting to drive a Ranger is definitely an experience and as one of the more noteworthy trucks in the market, we’re happy to feature it here.
