The Auto Nation Group, the official distributor of Mercedes Benz vehicles in the Philippines has officially launched the 2021 Mercedes Benz GLB in the country. With the introduction of the compact luxury SUV, the German brand wants to take a slice out of the growing crossover and SUV market in the country.
The new Mercedes Benz GLB measures in at 4,634mm in length, 1,834mm in width, and 1,658 in height. This makes the all-new vehicle just one inch shy in terms of length from its stablemate the GLC. The differences between the two can be found in their respective drivetrains. The GLB was designed with a front-engine layout in mind while the GLC was made to be rear-wheel-drive. Thanks to its front-driven wheels the GLB has more room for a 3rd row, of note the new luxury compact SUV utilizes the same front-wheel-drive architecture as its siblings the Mercedes Benz A-Class, the Mercedes Benz CLA, and in the Mercedes Benz GLA which is said to be coming soon.
Exterior
On the outside, the 2021 Mercedes Benz GLB comes with a boxy design. It still carries the German brand’s signature grille and large emblem at the front but adapts it for the flatter face of an SUV. With the boxy design, this gives the vehicle more room to fit in a third row. As standard, the GLB comes with LED headlights and adaptive brake lights for better safety. It also comes with sport front and rear bumpers as wheel as side skirts to further put emphasis on the sporty nature of the compact SUV. finishing the look is a set of 19-inch twin-spoke alloy wheels.
Interior
Moving on to the inside of the GLB and you are greeted with a familiar sight as it shares a lot in common in terms of the interior with its A-Class hatchback sibling. As it is from a luxury brand the compact SUV comes with a lot of nice materials and design details that show that it is a premium vehicle. It comes with LED ambient lighting, ARTICO synthetic leather upholstery, and an electronically adjustable driver’s seat, just to name a few.
The GLB 200 AMG line, the only variant in the Philippines, comes with the vehicle’s entry-level infotainment system. This means that the vehicle comes equipped with two 7-inch displays with one being for the gauge cluster and the other acting as the main entertainment display. As standard, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come with the vehicle.
Power
Despite its GLB 200 nameplate, the vehicle does not come powered by a 2.0-liter gasoline engine. It instead comes powered by a 1.3-liter inline-4 turbocharged gasoline engine that produces 160hp and 250 Nm of torque. Impressive power figures considering its displacement size. The GLB sends its power to the front wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
In terms of safety, the lone variant of the vehicle comes equipped with automatic emergency braking (Active Brake Assist), hill start assist, a suite of airbags, reverse camera, and active parking assists with self-parking feature.
Pricing
The 2021 Mercedes Benz GLB 200 AMG Line comes with a price tag of P3,790,000 and is now available at all of the German automaker’s dealerships nationwide. For the rest of 2020, the German brand expects to sell at least 30 units of its new 7-seater SUV.
