Recently, Toyota rolled out the new and updated Land Cruiser 70 Series, bringing the nearly 40-year-old veteran closer in line with the standards of the modern world. Although the Japanese-market selection is still confined to the five-door SUV design, the United Arab Emirates now offers the shorter three-door variant, equipped with a V6 gasoline engine.
Over the course of its existence, the Land Cruiser 70 Series has been dressed in many different body styles. Of course, the two main body styles that persist for these types of SUVs are the five-door and three-door versions.
While the majority may favor the practicality of the five-door Land Cruiser, three-door SUVs are the weapon of choice for hardcore off-road enthusiasts thanks to its compact dimensions. Measuring 4,235 mm in length, the three-door model is 640 mm shorter than its five-door counterpart.
The updated design features, such as the round LED headlights, prominent indicators, chrome-infused bumper, and block-style taillights introduced in the 2024 facelift, pay homage to the original design, resulting in a timeless aesthetic. The UAE-specific model is also equipped with 16-inch alloy wheels fitted with thick rubber tires.
Like the five-door version, the seats are adorned with Nubuck and synthetic leather upholstery, complemented by a nine-inch infotainment system offering wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The audio system comprises a two-speaker setup, and the convenience of electric windows adds to the overall interior experience. The safety features have been upgraded to incorporate Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) like Lane Departure Assist and a Pre-Collision System, however, you only get two front airbags.
The three-door Land Cruiser in the UAE is powered by the 1GR-FE V6 gasoline engine. This engine pumps out 228 hp and a torque of 360 Nm. The power is channeled to all four wheels through a six-speed Super ECT automatic gearbox paired with a robust four-wheel drive system. Don’t expect these to stay stock for long though, the modding community for off-roaders in the UAE is quick to put upgrades on these new models.
The three-door Land Cruiser 70 Series is only available with a single trim option and is priced at 169,900 AED. Here in the Philippines, that amount translates to around the hefty price of P2,550,000.
