GAC’s got a gem of a sedan on their hands. The GAC Empow will be one of the models that will mount the brand’s comeback into the limelight thanks to its specifications, features, and driving dynamics.
Coming into the second half of 2023, GAC’s announcing the ready availability of its sporty sedan, the Empow GE. We got to test the mid-trim GB variant of the Empow, and we were still impressed so what more when the model is fully kitted out and ready for the sportiest of drivers? Here are several specs to expect from the model whose availability will be official at the 2023 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS 2023).
So what can we expect from the Empow? For starters, the model will come with a 1.5-liter turbocharged motor that produces 174 hp and 270 Nm of torque, more than enough to make your spirited drives even more exciting. On top of that, it will also come with a seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission (DCT) that we discovered is one of the better gearboxes out there in terms of performance driving. However, you probably already knew about that, and even the base GS trim of the Empow has these specs, so what else can we expect?
Stepping up from the GB to the GE will get you a bunch of new features that will improve your overall experience with the car. The first of which is paddle shifters. The GB lacks paddles, which is a sore point for the Empow’s mid-trim variant. The addition of paddles will improve the experience tenfold, introducing an extra layer of control for when the roads are ready to be conquered.
Apart from that, you will also get larger and more stylish wheels, coming in at 18 inches. The 17-inch set on the GB was great, but the 18-inch set is much better and will fill out the wheel wells more, resulting in a look that is sure to turn heads. The GE trim is also more aggressive than its lower-end counterparts, adopting a front and rear bumper that give the car an eager-to-drive look. On top of that, GAC Motor also put some accent colors on the body of the car, which includes trimming on the front, the rear, the side, and even on the alloy wheels. These accent colors can also be found on the interior, which also receives some top-of-the-line treatments.
On top of the exterior enhancements, GAC has also fitted ambient lighting to the interior, which gives the Empow a special touch. Dual-zone automatic climate control is also present in this trim and you also get powered and heated side mirrors.
On the safety front, you also get all the adaptive and advanced safety features that the GB trim has, but you get front parking sensors on top of everything that the GB already comes with which is forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, high-beam assist, autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keep assist, and traffic jam assist for the advanced safety features. For the passive safety features, the GAC Empow in its GE trim will come with the aforementioned front parking sensors, paired with the rear parking sensors, a reverse camera, ABS with electronic brakeforce distribution, hydraulic brake assist, hill-hold control, electronic stability control, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, a tire pressure monitoring system, ISOFIX anchors, and an engine immobilizer.
In short, the GAC Empow GE’s finally going to be available to the public, and we reckon that it is the model to get in the lineup moving forward.
