The Mazda CX-9 is undeniably a beautiful piece of machine, and despite its ageless looks and already-superb specifications, the Japanese brand still made a few updates for the midsize crossover’s 2021 model.
This updated CX-9 will soon be available in the North American region, with 2021 units expected to arrive on dealerships later this month. The photo attached above showcases a few design updates done to the vehicle, including its grille which was redone and treated with a new Titanium Gray Metallic finish. It also gets a new set of 20-inch alloys that are finished in Brilliant Silver. Majority of its design cues have been carried over from the pre-updated model, given that this is just a slight refresh.

Inside, you are greeted with a familiar interior layout of the CX-9 although there are some notable changes as well. From having a smaller screen, the CX-9 now gets a 10.25-inch infotainment system that uses the latest Mazda Connect software. The upgraded interior also comes with new quilting and piping on its first and second-row seats, as well as a patterned aluminum on the dash, door panels, and handle bezels.
Notably, the CX-9, at least in the North American market, can be had with second-row captain’s chairs for added prestige and superior comfort. On top of these updates, the Mazda CX-9 can still be had with the 12-speaker Bose Audio System, i-Activsense safety features, and many more.
Even the 2.5-liter SkyActiv turbocharged engine still has the same power figures, while it is then paired with the brand’s 6-speed automatic transmission. The midsize crossover can either be had in AWD or FWD drivetrain options like before.

Apart from its refreshed model, the Mazda CX-9 along with its stablemates, the Mazda CX-5 and Mazda6, will be made available with a Carbon Edition trim. The following models under the said trim shall have special aesthetic appointments for both the exterior and interior.
While the Philippine Market still gets its pre-updated model, we do hope that Mazda Philippines will consider bringing this in anytime soon.
