After Ssangyong Berjaya Motor Philippines (SBMP) officially signed as the brand’s new local distributor the day before, they revealed their full vehicle line-up at the 2016 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS). This included a subcompact crossover, compact crossover, and an MPV that offers features and attractive prices that would suit the local market.
The Korando is a rather stylish 5-seat compact crossover. It’ll greet you with its blacked-out grille and LED daytime running lights. The minimalist front fascia give it a classy appeal, while the fender flares and matte black accent around the body make it look sporty.
The interior is decorated with a mix of faux aluminum and wood veneer, which is complemented with leather seats in the top of the line ELX variant. There’s a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system on the center console and temperature is controlled by either an automatic single-zone climate control or manual A/C. Standard features on all variants are cruise control and keyless entry system.
Under the hood, there’s a choice between a 4-cylinder 2.0L 149 hp gasoline engine with 197 Nm of torque or a 4-cylinder 2.0L CRDi diesel engine that puts out 149 hp (175 hp for the SXD model) and 360 Nm of pulling power. Transmission options include a 6-speed automatic with tiptronics, or a 6-speed manual.
Safety is improved by ABS with EBD and brake assist that are standard on all models, while the ELX variant enjoys an Electronic Stability Program.
In total, there are 4 variants to choose from with prices starting at P1,090,000 and tops out at P1,390,000.
SsangYong classifies the Rodius as an MPV but with an SUV pedigree. Its front-fascia makes a classy statement with its chrome grille while the down-sloped turn lights give it an aggressive look. The 16-inch rims are dwarfed by the large body, especially if seen from the side.
SsangYong allows you to choose between an 11-seater or a 7-seater premium variant with captain seats. Non-base model variants have a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system that can be controlled via steering wheel while an automatic single-zone climate control with rear vents keeps the cabin cool.
This MPV comes with a 2.0L turbocharged engine that will give you 155 hp and 360 Nm of torque, coupled to either a manual or automatic transmission. There’s also independent suspension in the rear to give a better ride. Other features include airbags, ABS, keyless entry, and vehicle alarm.
The Rodius is now available in 3 variants, starting from P1,290,000 to P1,590,000.
The third model on the list is the Tivoli - a 5-seat subcompact crossover that’s SsangYong’s most affordable vehicle yet still provide good value for money.
To give it a bigger road presence, its given muscular wheel arches and a boxy silhouette. The lower cladding also comes in matte black that makes it look rugged, highlighting its active persona. It’s far from being big, but has ample space inside and a large cargo space to flaunt at 423L. Entertainment comes from a 7-inch touchscreen system, while automatic climate control and leather upholstery are also available.
Under the hood is a 1.6L 4-cylinder Dual-CVVT gasoline engine with 128 hp and 160 Nm of torque. A 6-speed automatic or manual transmission are both available. It also has Smart Steer that allows the driver to adjust the weight and response of the steering wheel to their preference. Standard features include airbags, ABS with EBD and Brake Assist while upper variants have the luxury of immobilizer, keyless entry with alarm, rear parking sensors, and rear camera.
You can pick from any of the Tivoli’s 5 variants that ranges from P785,000 to P1,080,000.
