These cars include the competitive and well-priced Toyota Wigo, the arrival of the much-awaited models from Nissan including the Sylphy, Altima, and the X-Trail. The American makes like Chevrolet have also launched new variants for the Chevrolet Trailblazer, while Mercedes Benz has also released the jaw-dropping S-Class and the C-Class luxury sedans. This year also marked the launching and the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the new Ford Mustang.
Subaru Legacy and Outback
The Subaru brand has been quite a popular brand in the Philippine motoring industry for quite some time. Coupled with good product lineup, proper pricing, and an aggressive marketing, it has surely won the hearts of many Filipinos. The all-new Subaru Legacy and the more rugged Outback has already marked its Asian debut last year. It packs a better fit and finish, revised steering and suspension, and an added punch in performance while improving fuel efficiency. The Subaru Legacy is powered by a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder boxer engine while the flagship Outback is powered by a 3.6-liter, six-cylinder, flat-six boxer. It is said to be launched for this years’ Manila International Auto Show will surely be a crowd-pleaser.
The pickup market in the Philippines is huge and Nissan has always recognized the importance of putting their vehicles into a good fight with a promise. The all-new Nissan Navara NP300 now packs with a more potent engine matched with the industry’s first 7-Speed Automatic transmission that will surely deliver more cruising speed at lower rpms. The cabin has also been improved to give more car-like comforts along with coil suspension on the rear. It will surely make it a competitive family-business lifestyle pickup truck that’s aims to be a pleasurable motor to drive.
The Mitsubishi Strada has been a long-time favorite pickup by Filipinos since the first generation model was introduced in the Philippines. It featured a reliable, trust-worthy, and fairly compliant diesel engine that runs all throughout the year. Much thought and innovation has been put to each model reincarnation to win fans all over. For 2015, we expect the all-new Mitsubishi L200 Strada to get into the dogfight again with an all-new 4N15 MIVEC diesel engine. The interior of the pickup truck is also said to be ‘more spacious and luxurious’ than ever before. And being an L200, it still boasts a very well-compliant suspension for that family-business versatility.
Volvo’s XC90 must have been an SUV legend in terms of safety offerings for your family despite its age. But for 2015, the all-new model is set to arrive in our shores offering more protective equipment for your passenger’s peace of mind. Set to compete the premium SUV market, the new design highlights a striking T-shaped LED daytime running lights (called Thor) and a well-proportioned athletic stance. The all-new model is also said to be a lot roomier with handcrafted wood and leather throughout the interior. Engine options start with a 316bhp T6 petrol and a 222bhp D5 diesel with both engines mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Shorter but wider than the model it replaces, the all-new Ford Everest is a new form of sports utility vehicle which offers a menacing look and the performance required for the whole family. It is still rumored to be released in the upcoming Manila International Auto Show, it features a seven-seat capacity, 20-inch alloys, and two renowned Duratorq TDCi diesel engines that’s both capable and efficient. Other class-leading features also include Lane Keeping Aid, Active Park Assist, Blind Spot Information System, and Curve Control to keep passengers reassured for those long journeys across the archipelago.
Hyundai ix25
Hyundai has also seen an opportunity to market a subcompact SUV to compete against the blue oval brand which is why they’ve decided to release the ix25 last October in China. With great styling cues from the popular Sante Fe, the ix25 also sports a hexagonal grille and swept back headlamps. What’s more appealing with this model is that it is just less than 4.3 meters short but seats five adults and luggage. Under the hood lies two engine options; a 1.6L gasoline and a 1.6L CRDi diesel powerhouse that deliver a balance of performance and efficiency for the urban jungle. There is still no word from HARI if they will be using the ix25 name in the Philippines.
For the premium market, this year is also going to be exciting considering that Volkswagen Philippines will be launching the legendary Golf hot hatch in GTi form. It features a 210 horsepower 2.0L turbocharged engine mated to 6-speed DSG transmission or a 6-speed manual. We may also expect the Transporter/Multivan to roam on our streets once again.
For the more exclusive market of sports cars, Aston Martin Manila is excited to offer their jaw-dropping DB9, V8 Vantage, V12 Vantage, Vanquish, Vanquish Volante, and the four-door Rapide first quarter of this year. It is said that the first dealership will be located in Bonifacio Global City.
