Originally a concept back in April of 2019, two years later and the production version of the Volkswagen Talagon has officially made its debut at the 2021 Auto Shanghai motor show. The new SUV is now the biggest model in the German automaker’s lineup and is even bigger than the Volkswagen Atlas in terms of overall length, width, and height. The new model even eclipses any model that sold in the Philippines such as the Volkswagen Touareg or the Volkswagen Tiguan in terms of size.
In terms of measurements, the Volkswagen Talagon comes in at 5,152 mm in length, 2,002 mm in width, and 1,795 mm in height. Its wheelbase is equally as impressive as it comes in at 2,980mm matching the Altas. With such large numbers, the Talagon now competes with other full-size SUVs such as the Ford Explorer and the Chevrolet Tahoe.

On the outside, the Talagon matches the German brand’s design language as it takes styling cues from the other SUVs that have come out of Wolfsburg. It comes with a large horizontal grille, massive LED headlights with matching daytime running lights as well as a simple yet imposing stance. Match this with Volkswagen’s timeless design language and you’ve got yourself an SUV that will surely become a hit.

Moving to the interior, it takes styling cues from Volkswagen’s smaller vehicles such as the Golf. It comes with a wide dashboard accompanied by massive screens, both for the infotainment system as well as its gauge cluster, and a large center console where its gear shifter and climate controls are located. Fitting its rather large stature, the Talagon also comes with fancy leather upholstery, intricate ambient lighting and massive sunroof that extends over the first two rows of seats in the vehicle.

A behemoth of a vehicle, the Talagon can be had with multiple powertrains available. However, one notable powertrain is the 2.5-liter twin-turbo V6 gasoline motor that will be available for the range-topping variants. The engine produces a healthy 295 hp and 500 Nm of torque which is sent to all four wheels via a 4-motion all-wheel-drive system and through a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
