Improving children’s reading literacy and art appreciation – this is the latest corporate social responsibility (CSR) program that Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) has done with the help of the non-profit organization named Center for Art, New Ventures and Sustainable Development (CANVAS).
MMPC and CANVAS went to the rural village of Kasiglahan, Montalban, Rizal using the all-new Mitsubishi Montero Sport SUV and handed out books to the village's library, day care center, and children. The joint group also read stories, provided snacks and loot bags to over 200 children in the area led by Froilan Dytianquin, MMPC's first Vice President for Marketing.
The event likewise demonstrated the capabilities of the all-new Mitsubishi Montero Sport. Not only was it used to deliver books, snacks, and gifts, it also served as service vehicle for CANVAS volunteers up to the Montalban, Rizal and back to Manila. The 7-seater SUV proved that it's the ideal vehicle for CSR missions like this.
It comes with a 2.4L inline 4-cylinder diesel engine that produces 181 hp and 430 Nm of torque that’s mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. With that performance output, drivers can take the Montero Sport out in the open road and up the mountains to reach far-flung areas. Moreover, its 2nd and 3rd row seats can be folded down, thus allowing bigger space for cargo such as the books and gifts that were given during the event.
The recently-held book-giving and storytelling event in Rizal is only the beginning of MMPC and CANVAS’ partnership. With a common goal of promoting and improving education, art appreciation, and values for children, there will be more of this outreach program to come.
