The new 2021 Nissan Terra / X-Terra finally breaks cover

After going through some spy shots and patent images, the new facelifted Nissan Terra finally breaks cover, with it showcasing a fresh and more rugged-looking exterior along with a revamped interior. In the Middle East where it was formally launched, the midsize SUV carries the X-Terra nameplate. So with the outgoing model being in the market for over two years now, is this facelift version a worthy successor? Has Nissan finally perfected the formula of the Terra? Let’s find out.

Exterior

Given that this is a refresh model, the 2021 Nissan Terra still retains its boxy shape, that’s infused with a few curvy lines. The main highlight of this facelift of course would have to be the frontend, admittedly there is indeed a hint of Patrol here especially on its new V-Motion grille. The lighting system is now complemented by a quad-projector that is treated in LEDs. Its entire fascia is then wrapped up with a revised bumper which gives it a tough and modern approach.

As for the side, the step boards are now painted in black which is in contrast with the previous silver hue it uses. Plus, it's got a new set of 18-inch alloys and the side mirrors are now wrapped in chrome for that uniformity approach with the handles.

The rear, on the other hand, also gets a radical transformation as complemented by the new LED taillights. Other highlights include the centerpiece chrome which extends on both lighting systems and the lettering of the ‘X-Terra’ nameplate. Its rear bumper was also redone, with the reflectors being situated lower than before and there’s also an addition of a silver garnish trim which goes along with the black cladding.

Interior

The interior is quite a departure from the outgoing model, with it having an entirely new dash layout. Apart from having a better distinction over its pickup counterpart, the Navara, it’s dashboard looks nicer, therefore giving the Terra a more upscale look and feel. There’s even a two-tone scheme available for the Middle Eastern market.

The main highlight of the interior would have to be the 9-inch infotainment system which comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Previously, the Terra already had a Driver-Assist TFT screen, now, it’s even bigger, with it measuring at 7-inches. Now, in-car entertainment is leveled-up all thanks to the new Bose sound system and a flip-down monitor which is also found on its predecessor.

Safety

The Nissan Terra is known for its Intelligent Mobility suite of safety features, and gladly, Nissan maintained that prominent package. It gets intelligent emergency braking, intelligent forward collision warning, blind-spot warning, lane departure warning, blind-spot indicators with rear cross-traffic alert, an intelligent rear-view mirror, and of course, the renowned 360-degree camera.

Power and Chassis

In the Middle East, this midsize SUV is powered by a gasoline motor, specifically a 2.5-liter motor that puts out 165 hp and 241 Nm of torque. Though in our case, Nissan’s probably going to continue the capable and already-proven 2.5-liter turbo diesel which is found on its predecessor. Likewise, the transmission shall remain as it is as well, with the said motor being paired with a 7-speed automatic.

The new 2021 Nissan Terra or perhaps X-Terra embodies the brand’s strong SUV heritage. Without a doubt, this newest product shall set heat in the current battle of midsize SUVs. Let’s hope that this big guy will soon make its way to the ASEAN region as soon as possible.
