BYD Philippines unveiled the Seal 5 DM-i to the Philippine market on November 21, 2024. Serving as the brand’s affordable sedan offering, BYD introduced two distinct variants of the Seal 5 DM-i, the Dynamic, and the Premium.
Built on BYD's Super DM-i platform, the Seal 5 DM-i benefits from an advanced architecture designed for hybrid and electric powertrains. This platform prioritizes lightweight construction and structural rigidity, enhancing the vehicle's agility, stability, and crashworthiness. The platform also supports BYD’s Blade Battery integration, ensuring compactness without compromising interior space. The Seal 5 DM-i is powered by a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine paired with an electric motor, creating an efficient and responsive series-hybrid system. BYD’s trademark Blade Battery powers the electric motor for an all-electric driving range of 50 to 115 km on the NEDC cycle. The system delivers a power output of 177 hp in the Dynamic variant and 194 hp in the Premium variant, offering an impressive claimed extended range of 1,175 km for the Dynamic and 1,240 km for the Premium. As for torque figures, the Dynamic variant puts out 316 Nm of torque while the Premium has 325 Nm of torque on tap. In addition, as the electric motors have the sole responsibility of powering the vehicle while the gasoline engine serves as a range extender, the Seal 5 DM-i enjoys near-instantaneous power delivery.
The Seal 5 DM-i is built on BYD’s advanced DM-i (Dual Mode intelligent) hybrid system, designed to maximize energy efficiency and provide an exceptional electric driving experience. This system integrates a highly efficient engine, electric motor, and BYD’s renowned Blade Battery. The car also features the BYD Connect system, an intuitive infotainment platform with a rotating touchscreen, over-the-air updates, and intelligent apps. Additionally, the vehicle has advanced driver assistance systems, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and emergency braking, ensuring convenience and safety.
The exterior of the BYD Seal 5 DM-i reflects BYD’s "Ocean Aesthetics" design philosophy, with sleek lines and modern details inspired by marine themes. Its aerodynamic silhouette, characterized by a flowing roofline and a bold stance, enhances performance and visual appeal. The front grille features a distinctive chrome-accented design, flanked by sharp LED headlights that give the car a futuristic look. At the rear, eye-catching LED taillights add to the sporty aesthetic, while stylish alloy wheels, available in 17 or 18-inch designs, complete the striking profile.
Inside the Seal 5 DM-i, the cabin is designed to offer a premium and futuristic experience. A standout feature is the rotating infotainment display, which can be switched between portrait and landscape orientations, providing flexibility for navigation, media, and apps. High-quality materials, including soft-touch surfaces and leather upholstery, enhance comfort and luxury. The cabin is spacious, with ample headroom and legroom for five passengers, while features like, wireless charging, and multiple USB ports ensure convenience and connectivity. The interior blends technology and sophistication, creating a relaxing and engaging driving environment.
Safety is a top priority in the BYD Seal 5 DM-i, with an array of features designed to protect passengers and pedestrians alike. Central to this is BYD’s ultra-safe Blade Battery, which significantly reduces fire risks and ensures long-term durability. The vehicle also includes a robust ADAS suite, offering collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, and a 360-degree camera system for comprehensive protection. Multiple airbags and the car’s high-strength chassis further enhance occupant safety. Smart Parking Assist and automated driving aids provide additional convenience, ensuring stress-free parking and maneuvering in tight spaces.
