Say hello to the Aeolus Huge, Dongfeng’s entry to the hybrid compact crossover segment. Sporting a more subdued design than the more aggressive Forthing Friday, the Aeolus Huge hybrid is a more conventional vehicle in terms of design and in terms of powertrain.
The beating heart of the Aeolus Huge is a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine paired with an electric motor. This combination delivers a total system output of 241 hp and 540 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via an e-CVT or multi-mode transmission as Dongfeng puts it.
Inside, you’ll find no shortage of tech goodies and premium soft-touch materials. The instrument cluster and touchscreen infotainment system are two connected 12.3-inch screens. Buyers are given a choice between light and dark interior colors with seats upholstered in Nappa textured leather.
Launch
The Aeolus Huge entered the Philippine market in October 2023 alongside the Nanobox EV and the Forthing Friday. Dongfeng’s hybrid crossover is available in one variant, the Aeolus Huge 1.5T HEV. The sole variant is priced at P1,888,888, slotting below the Forthing Friday EV.
Platform, Chassis and Powertrain
Powering the Aeolus Huge is a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine coupled with an electric motor. This pairing results in a total system output of 241 hp and 540 Nm of torque. Dongfeng utilizes an e-CVT or multi-mode transmission to channel power to the front wheels.
This crossover is built on top of Dongfeng’s self-developed DSMA platform and is equipped with a MacPherson strut front suspension and a multi-link independent suspension at the back. Stopping power comes from ventilated discs up front and solid discs at the back wheels. In addition, the Aeolus Huge comes with three drive modes, namely, Sport, Eco, and Normal to provide more control over how the crossover behaves on the road.
Technology Features
Inside the Aeolus Huge are a ton of gadgets for the driver. The turbo hybrid crossover welcomes passengers with two expansive displays, each spanning 12.3 inches. The first serves as the digital cluster, while the other functions as the touchscreen media display, featuring Bluetooth and USB connectivity. Additionally, the vehicle boasts automatic climate control, a 10-speaker sound system, a panoramic sunroof, power-adjustable seats, and a wireless phone charger.
In the safety department, the Aeolus Huge is also equipped with an extensive array of equipment. These include a Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keep Assist, Lane Centering Assist, and intelligent high beam control.
Exterior
At the front of the Aeolus Huge, there is a wide grille accompanied by sharp DRLs and flanked by the LED headlights at the sides. The sharp cuts and sleek styling are indicative of Dongfeng’s design language and denote an air of modernity about the car.
At the sides, there are two-tone multi-spoke alloy wheels and a simple badge located by the A pillar of the car. The back of the car is understated as well, featuring a simple wraparound LED taillight and a spoiler located at the top of the rear door. Overall, the Aeolus Huge has modern looks that are pleasing to the eyes of many, and at the same time, it doesn’t shout about its looks, maintaining a simple elegant style that allows it to blend in anywhere.
Interior
Like the outside, the interior of the Aelous Huge is simple and elegantly executed, despite being filled with a ton of gadgets. The seats, dashboard, and most of the interior are wrapped in Nappa leather, with Dongfeng providing a choice between a two-tone white interior or an entirely black one.
The steering wheel combines sportiness and simplicity with its flat bottom and minimalist-style controls. The center console, on the other hand, also features a simple design with all the controls for the HVAC and the infotainment system located in easy-to-reach and easy-to-spot locations.
At the back, passengers are treated to a spacious rear bench featuring contoured backrests, accompanied by a generously sized center armrest. Ample legroom ensures a comfortable journey. Additional features include air conditioning vents, convenient seat pockets, and ambient courtesy lights, all contributing to a luxurious experience. Completing the package is an impressive dual-pane sunroof, complete with a motorized sunshade, adding an extra touch of refinement.
Safety
On the safety side of things, the Dongfeng Aeolus Huge is brimming with features. These encompass systems such as Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keep Assist, Lane Centering Assist, and intelligent high beam control. Other features include ABS, electronic brakeforce distribution, electronic stability control, parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, and a suite of six airbags.
